Mystical/Cynical

Daren Magee & Jaymee Carpenter

Hosted by Daren Magee and Jaymee Carpenter, this podcast is a humorous, sincere, and rare exhibition of male vulnerability and heart-warming friendship, attempting to establish harmonious connections between cynicism and optimism, and the potential of an atheist/agnostic to recognize the mystical qualities within everyday life. Also, fart sounds.

Mystical/Cynical - Ep. 15 - "You're Just A Glitch, Bitch"
play

Daren feels this episode is a return to the energy and enthusiasm of Season One. TRANSLATION: Jaymee shares heartfelt information about how he deals with criticism, forgiveness and maintaining previously unfathomable levels of non-attachment in the stickiest of situations, and Daren interrupts every chance he gets with hilarious quips that make Jaymee laugh uncontrollably.

Mystical/Cynical - Ep. 14 - "The Ace Ventura Of Death"
play

05/31/22 • 64 min

In this episode, Jaymee shares what he feels the "liberal middle finger" is, and provides suggestions for how to successfully override the hard wiring of our minds while simultaneously being kind to ourselves. Daren discovers that his thoughts now have a comment section, and that Jaymee is currently Daren's only consistently maintained adult relationship. Jaymee shares an incredibly heartwarming story from the weekend of being invited to be present at the passing of their neighbors dog, and how a group of perfect strangers assembled at the last minute created an ideal space for a beautiful passing (which you have to hear to believe). Daren gives yet another detailed example of how texting is the worst form of communication, and the two friends read the same text from different interpretive perspectives to illustrate just how easily digital conversations can go awry. So here ya go, Mysti-Cyni's... another mini instruction manual for dismantling the collective delusion, with an abundance of laughter at moments previously considered sacred, in an enduringly curious friendship where the middle path is the only solid ground.

play

12/13/24 • 83 min

The boys solve imaginary problems, perform on air miracles, dive deep into the artistic intuition with a smattering of name dropping for the first hour, then spend the last half hour calling fans of the show to learn about them for a frickin' change. This week we talk with a lactation nurse in Austin, a nature conservationist in South Carolina, and... well... "Clifford".
