#9 - Mushroom Madman Mandie Quark - Mycologist / Biochemist In The Heart Of Southern Appalachia Mushroom Hunting
01/20/20 • 79 min
MushroomMadman Mandie Quark is a mycologist admirably following her dreams. She and her boyfriend/research partner moved to western North Carolina with a goal of collecting and cataloging rare fungal species. This is a fun and informative conversation about the science of mycology, mushroom foraging, and how to stay upbeat and creative in 2020. Conversation Starts @ 03:25
“Why should you take a madman seriously”?
Mandie is trained as a research scientist, and a grant writer. She has a Masters in Biochemistry and a Bachelors in Chemistry, and she is certified by the state of North Carolina Department of Health and licensed to safely pick, identify, and sell wild foraged mushrooms in seven mid-atlantic states. Mandie has also been a keynote speaker and teacher at many mycology festivals and mushroom related events across the country.
Now, with that entire history of achievements, Mandie decided to leave it all behind so that she could pursue life as a mycologist. The work that she and her research partner perform will help make this world a better place by discovering new mushrooms that could potentially help scientists direct the mechanisms of medicine and ecological healing, which many other fungi hold. If you would like to support Mandie and her mycological research, go to mushroommadman.com where you can either directly donate or purchase her exclusive one-of-a-kind mushroom photographs.
I am so thankful for this opportunity to have spoken with Mandie and to share with you the conversation that we had. I hope you enjoy!

Sustain You, Sustain Knowledge with Shit You Should Know
SYSK USA
In this episode, Jason @sysk_usa tells his story of war trauma and navigating through the system of healthcare to treat the plethora of negative symptoms. Eventually, he found that synthetic thc did more for him than any other form of legal medicine. Being active duty US Army and anti-drug at this point, he was puzzled as to why this was the only thing working. From that point on, it was a journey of navigating the waters of cannabis and other psychedelics in pursuit of positive healing when all else failed. Feel free to reach out to him for questions if you are suffering and in need of guidance. If you would like to skip the intro music, the conversation starts at 6:00
As for all of our armed service members who are currently or about to be in the middle east dealing with this seemingly never ending war, my heart goes out to you, we love you, and we pray for peace. Just know, that outside of the VA Hospitals there are people and places in this country, and world, where you can go to get help with the traumas you may go through. Please reach out to us and we may be able to help guide you if you need a lifeline.

Intro/Outro music
"Patience” by Nathan Davila
“You could come and dig a little piece of my mind
Maybe it would be a little harder to find
This signal when it’s lost on this planet all alone
Now that I have found it you can all come home
‘Cause this Mycoverse The Mushroom Podcast and I’m speaking up
Because I believe in the power of the great unknown
And I know
That this here
Is the moment
When we have
To be clear with what we say
Intent with how we dive
Into the abyss
So we can take a message back from the unknown
My mind has had its own
Frequency that’s deepening so baby won’t you please please please come home”
I love you all
Thank you
-Nathan

#10 - Decriminalize Nature Portland, Oregon - Nick Combest - Home Is Where The Mushroom Grows - #thankyouplantmedicine
“Decriminalize Nature Portland is a grassroots cadre of Earth activists that are engaging the people of Portland, Oregon and beyond. We are banded together, bonded by our history with plants and fungus. People have cultural and spiritual relationships with psychedelic plants and mushrooms and we have the right to engage in communion that restores our connection with ourselves, each-other, and the Earth around us.”
This conversation with Nick Combest is very informative and insightful, coming from someone who is absolutely connected with the nature of this universe. We- You and I- are all beautifully a part of life on this planet.
This Decriminalize Nature movement is the fight for humans to be able to peacefully commune with plants and fungi that grow out of the ground. They aren’t drugs made in a lab. They’re plants and mushrooms. As grown adults, we have the right to educate ourselves about these living organisms in a peaceful environment without the ridicule of uneducated peers powered by uneducated laws. The goal here is to educate all, and transform our societal perception from the dull controlled past to a more connected, conscious community. Plant and fungi medicines and are believed to be the immunol voice of the Earth, reaching out to help us all see that life is beautiful, and this planet is worth actively being a part of.
