MY 90s MUSIC PODCAST

MY 90s MUSIC PODCAST

Mark McC

Welcome to My 90s Music Podcast with me Mark McC. I will be bringing you regular chats with the very best musicians and scene-sters from the 90s. This podcast will be chocked full with your heroes and the people you loved and still love from The 90s. People who’s music or voices were never too far away from your ears and those who adorned your school books and you had plastered all over your bedroom walls. I will chat to the 90s superstars who lived it, loved it and who were truly in the eye of the storm. Guests will include those who were the soundtrack to your youth or formative years as you discovered the very best bands, best music tracks, best music scenes and best gigs as you partied your way through the best decade of your life. Our parents and our grandparents had the 60s, we luckily had the 90s. What a time to be alive and what a time to look back on the trials, tribulations and triumphs of a decade that will never sound, smell or feel like that ever again. The first 5 episodes of My 90s Music Podcast will be with: Alan McGee of Creation Records and signing Oasis fame. Steve Hamilton who is a famous sax player and composer who recorded and or toured with bands like Blur, Radiohead and Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds. Mark Bedford who is Madness Bass Player and Founder member. Chris Helme - Seahorses front man and singer songwriter in his own right And Scottish National Treasure Duglas T. Stewart who is BMX bandits frontman and long time friend and collaborator with members of Teenage Fanclub, Superstar, Soup Dragons and many more of the Belshill Music Glitterati. For those of you who don’t know me, here is a little bit about me... I’m Mark McC, your host and I am stuck somewhere between 1989 and the early 2000s. I was always obsessed with the music of the 1990s since hearing She Bangs the Drums and Step On in a mate’s sister’s bedroom record player (she was out) when I was 14. I worked at Our Price Records in Irvine and Kilmarnock in the west coast of Scotland during school and University which gave me a proper schooling in music and opened my eyes to every genre and decade (but the alternative and mainstream 90s music was where I felt most at home). I was 16 when Britpop kicked off in 1992 with Blur and Suede and 18 when Liam and Noel launched the song that changed everything Supersonic. At the end of the 90s I moved from Ayrshire to The big Smoke, to London, to start working with some of the big music magazines like (NME, LOADED, MELODY MAKER, MUZIK and UNCUT) in the late 90s and never looked back (apart from my music tastes). My 90s Podcast is almost here. Please subscribe, tell your 90s loving friends to subscribe too. My 90s Music Podcast with me Mark McC first 5 episodes will be with you very soon. So stayed tuned on social media and your preferred podcast platform for more news. MY 90s MUSIC PODCAST - EP6 - NIGEL CLARK - DODGY - STAYING OUT FOR THE 90s
play

10/15/20 • 58 min

Alright - welcome to My 90s music podcast - the podcast where I talk to the people who lived, loved and were in the eye of the storm of the best decade ever - the glorious 90s.

Today I have the pleasure of being IN A ZOOM with Nigel Clark from Dodgy and who is an incredible singer, songwriter and solo artist in his own right (sorry I nicked title from something Nigel is doing as a virtual Q and A).

I had a great time chatting to Nigel and we cover his 90s experience all the way to talking about punk, the 60s bands of Laurel canyon and playing guitar soon with Toyah who lives across the road from him.

But, we kick off getting settled into the interview talking about the times we are living now and why the 1980s and 90s were a simply, possibly better time for so many reasons.

That was really great chatting to Nigel Clark and I really enjoyed that really honest chat about what it was like to be in the good ship Dodgy and also Nigel’s world outside of that. Some brilliant memories there and I can't wait to hear Nigel’s new songs with the possibility of old Dodgy demos and Bluetones demos seeing the light of day. Also if you are in Norwich on Sept 4th for the Common People gigs where Nigel, Chris Helme and Mark Morriss get together to blow us all away - do check that out.

Nigel has new album coming out in Oct called Make Believe Love which he is very excited about and I am sure you are too.

Follow Nigel on Twitter @dodgy_nigel and on Instagram @Nigel_Songs and Nigel Clark on Facebook.

Thanks so much for listening to this episode. I hope that it filled you with as much joy, nostalgia and happiness that it did for me.

Ep Corduroy

INTRO

Alright - welcome to My 90s music podcast with me Mark McC - the podcast where I talk to the people who lived, loved and were in the eye of the storm of the best decade ever - the glorious 90s.

Today I’m totally jazzed as I had the real pleasure of talking to two of my musical heroes that are half of The Fabric Four - Corduroy.

If you don’t know much about Corduroy or the Acid Jazz label and scene then I would check them out as they were a real influence on many of the bands in the 90s including the generators of Britpop - Blur who they also supported with Pulp and Supergrass at Ally Pally.

I had a great, fun interview with Richard who plays bass and Simon who is the guitarist in the band. We chat about how the band formed, recording the albums, touring, riding a helicopter and driving an Aston Martin in Japan for a TV as, how the band came to a natural end in the 90s and how they are coming back with a bang very soon with a new album, tour dates and brand new merchandise at www.corduroyshop.bigcartel.com

We kick off talking about what COVID has done to the live music scene and our collective pockets before heading back to the 90s.

OUTRO

Thanks to Simon and Richard for taking the time to talk to me and I wish you well for the new album, finishing those tunes started during lockdown and of course seeing you in a venue near me really soon.

Corduroy will have a new album out soon on Acid Jazz so keep your eyes peeled on @CorduroyFabric4 on Twitter and @corduroyband on Instagram.

Don’t forget to get your Corduroy facemasks, Tshirts and merch www.corduroyshop.bigcartel.com

Thanks so much for listening to this episode. I hope that it filled you with as much joy, nostalgia and happiness that it did for me.

MY 90s MUSIC PODCAST - EP8 - MARK BEDFORD - MADNESS & MADSTOCK IN THE 90s
play

11/11/20 • 37 min

Alright - welcome to My 90s music podcast - the podcast where I talk to the people who lived, loved and were in the eye of the storm of the best decade ever - the glorious 90s.

Today I speak to a real special guest - Mark Bedford who is a founding member and bass player of Madness

Coming into the 90s was a really interesting time for Madness as they approached the decade differently which had great results. They found a new passion, new energy and new fanbase by pioneering the all day festival which was called Madstock in FInsbury Park. This was one of the first of its kind and we have them to thank them for any day or weekend festival we go to for laying out that blueprint. Madstock 92 saw Madness headline but had huge supporting acts such as Flowered Up, Gallon Drunk, Ian Dury and the Blockheads and Morrissey.

Madness also released a host of live albums and compilations which further embraced them into the bosoms for Indie Kids, 80s kids and all music fans across the world.

OUTRO

Wow - imagine one of the founder members and bass player of Madness taking the time to chat to us. What an honour. A real gent. Thanks to Mark Bedford for sharing his 90s experience. And a huge shout out to Katy M for connecting us also. Massive thanks.

Do follow @madnessnews on twitter to see what they are up and do yourself a favor - grab a drink tonight and get some Madness on - maybe the Madstock Live album - you will feel 100% better for doing that.

Thanks so much for listening to this episode. I hope that it filled you with as much joy, nostalgia and happiness that it did for me.

He also has played with Amy Winehouse, The Auteurs, Beyonce, Bono, The Beloved, Madness, The Pet Shop Boys, The Wildhearts, Snowboy, Roger Daltrey, Stereo Lab and Stevie Wonder.

He famously missed out on playing with Frank Sinatra but tells us all about that. Sorry Steve.

Superb to chat to Steve Hamilton on today’s episode. He is a genuinely talented individual and very humble about what he has achieved in his life. Excited to hear what he does next especially with Noel and the HFB which should be very soon by all accounts. Thanks to Katy M for connecting us - really appreciate it! You are a superstar.
