Why did you start this show?
In 2018, we connected over the movies that we absolutely loved. For months, we would send each other voice memos with our commentary on movies that we had watched. At that point, we decided that we would hit record and start a podcast, unsure of what would happen. We had no idea that talking about movies each week would be a fun way to connect more deeply with each other and the world around us!
What do you hope listeners gain from listening to your show?
Our goal is to have conversations that create connection. We hope that our recorded conversation is a starting point for others to have conversations with those in their own lives. We believe that movies can be a great entry point to learn more about others and the world around us if we're willing to listen and engage.
Which episode should someone start with?
Start with a movie that you've seen. You can also check out our yearly Top 10 lists, where we share the top ten movies we watched the previous year.
How did you come up with the name for your podcast?
We started out at The Strategic Whimsy Experiment, but after a few years realized that name wasn't going to work for us going forward. So, after months of brainstorming and a list of over 130 name options, we finally decided on Movies & Us. We chose Movies & Us because it is simple and it encapsulates what we're all about: movies and us.
