Flowing Through the Natural Way

Throughout the years, the geothermal wells pumping heated water have bubbled up in the Animas Valley before cycling back down to the underground aquifer. Durango Hot Springs, purchased in 2019 and renamed from Trimble Hot Springs, has incorporated the natural flow cycle into the management of its soaking pools, all the while practicing a sustainable method of water treatment, creating a better soaking experience and giving back to the Animas Valley. Towaoc Greenhouse Grows Food for Seniors

In Towaoc, a recently built greenhouse known as the Growdome, built by Growing Spaces, is now growing fresh food for the Ute Mountain Ute Senior Center. Funded by the San Juan Basin Area Agency for Aging, additional indoor growing spaces are being built at Senior Centers across the region to engage the community and provide fresh produce for the elderly. January’s Unofficial Day to Ditch Your New Year’s Resolution

Applications are open through February 9th for El Pomar Foundation’s summer internship program. Packets for Cortez’s 2024 municipal election are available for pickup at the Cortez City Hall. The city council has four seats that are up for election this year with new council members officially taking office in April. According to a Forbes Health/OnePoll survey, the majority of those who set new year’s resolutions will quit or forget about them within the first four months. At the farm only a few miles away in McElmo Canyon, Hobbs and Meyer experiment with drought-resistant seeds and grains from around the world to find the most hardy and nutritious seeds they can grow — and then mill and bake in the bakehouse.
