Money marathon with Ben Jongebloed
01/06/25 • 21 min
“It’s a marathon not a sprint.” You’ve no doubt heard this term and probably said it yourself, especially if you follow a sporting team that’s started off the season slowly and you’re hoping they’ll build momentum. So what has this got to do with a financial podcast? Plenty.
Tribeca’s Ben Jongebloed is known as the Marathon Man in the office, having completed five with more to come. But it wasn’t until he got serious about his running and started working with a coach that he realised the parallels with his marathon journey and his role as a Senior Advisor at Tribeca.
In this energetic chat with Ryan and Steph, Ben runs through (pardon the pun) the similarities between the coach-athlete and adviser-client relationship, from putting plans in place to achieve your goals and adjusting when needed, keeping you accountable and supported when things get challenging, and helping you stay motivated and on track.
You’re sure to come away feeling empowered to strive for your personal best, whether that’s with your finances or in work/personal life. It may even inspire you to put on your running shoes!
Here’s to your Good Life. And thanks for listening.

Financial wellbeing with Anna Glynn
How do you feel about your finances? Be honest. Do you feel in control and heading in the right direction? Or are you just getting by week by week? Maybe you just prefer not to think about it. Whatever financial headspace you’re in at the moment, you’re sure to get your money’s worth from the next 28 minutes.
That’s because this week’s episode is all about Financial Wellbeing, where Ryan and Steph sit down with Positive Psychology expert Anna Glynn to dig deep into this most talked about but often misunderstood financial buzzword of our times.
They unpack questions like: Does money really buy happiness, or can happiness actually create more money for you? What is financial wellbeing in simple terms and how can you rate your own and improve it? And why is talking about and understanding our relationship with money so important to achieving our goals and living with a strong sense of financial freedom and security.
What is financial wellbeing?
Financial wellbeing is defined as a state of being wherein you; have control over your finances, have the capacity to absorb a financial shock, have the freedom to make choices to enjoy life and are on track to meet your goals.
When these four factors are in alignment, you then arrive at two very strong emotional responses; a sense of security and feeling of freedom.
The hedonic treadmill concept
The hedonic treadmill is the concept that while positive or negative life events may temporarily influence an individual’s happiness, their overall level of happiness tends to move back to where it was prior to these experiences.
Maslow’s hierarchy of needs
Abraham Maslow's hierarchy of needs outlines a model suggesting that human motivation arises from five key levels: physiological, safety, love and belonging, esteem, and self-actualisation. According to this theory, individuals achieve greater fulfillment and drive as they progress through these stages.
What are money scripts
Money stories are the personal narratives that we hold about money and are shaped by experiences, upbringing, and cultural influences. These stories influence how we perceive, manage and relate to money and can impact our financial decisions and behaviours.
