Monday Mindset With Isha Warriors - Episode 122: Small Changes Can Make a Big Difference-Interview with Acorn Fund Pocatello Founder, Alisha Bailey

Episode 122: Small Changes Can Make a Big Difference-Interview with Acorn Fund Pocatello Founder, Alisha Bailey

12/30/24 • 57 min

Monday Mindset With Isha Warriors

It started with a new move to a new state, feeling isolated as a young stay at home mom and not wanting to be in a funk anymore.
It started with noticing a small old home that served as a homeless shelter close by her kids preschool.
It started with offering to get Christmas gifts for one child at the shelter.
Alisha's journey with her foundation started with a very small act; an act that any of us could do.
What small act will you feel prompted to make after listening in today? What need do you see around you? What talents do you have?
“Do your one little thing and you WILL MAKE A DIFFERENCE IN THIS WORLD. And if all of us did THAT-imagine the difference it would make." -Alisha Bailey

Show note highlights:
1. I was looking for ways to cope with a new place and no friends.
2. What I did all those years ago blessed the people we served. AND it blessed my life-because I met amazing people across the whole community! I quickly became friends with others who shared my desire to serve the homeless population.
3. HOW CAN YOU HELP OTHER PEOPLE FEEL SEEN AND HEARD? Alisha loves that she gets to help people be seen and heard. She gets to help them feel like a human. She has had so many opportunities to better understand people who have had a different life experience than her. She gets to meet people as “a father who is trying to help his daughter”- beneath the surface.
4. Reaching out of your comfort zone can be hard. It takes courage.
5. THE MORE I KNOW THE LESS I JUDGE. What if their story were my story? We actually aren’t that different. Alisha had been going to the shelter regularly over a year and gotten to know people and was inspired by a talk by Linda K. Burton “I Was A Stranger” and couldn’t get her words out of my heart. She wanted to do more for all of those in the shelter.
6. Alisha was on her own and needed help. Miracles happened as she asked for it.
7. Perseverance is essential. Alisha had a lot to learn about organizing and implementing and delegating so that she could continue doing this work.
8. LESSON HERE: GET IN THE TRENCHES WITH OTHER PEOPLE. Share an experience with others. THIS IS HOW YOU WILL MAKE DEEP CONNECTIONS. THIS IS HOW YOU MAKE LASTING RELATIONSHIPS. For Alisha-being her friend means you will get to serve with her in some capacity!
9. WHAT KEEPS YOU GOING ALISHA?
-It always works out. A miracle always happens.
-I have to get down on my knees and pray.
-I have tried everything that I have to give and then I have to turn it to God. Every time I face my limitations or obstacles I turn to God. And incredible miracles fall into place again and again.
10. Serving others is the purpose of this life.
-Find your gift and where you are needed.
-Use the talents God has given you.
THIS IS WHERE YOU WILL FIND JOY IN THIS LIFE.
All the other things won’t really matter anymore. And it’s OK if it's just one little thing. Open your eyes there are opportunities everywhere!!

Episode 121: 8 Tools to Help You Persevere With Hope

Hope is a powerful motivator and an essential component of emotional resilience and mental wellness. So how do we hold on to hope regardless of if we are having a bad day, a hard month or years full of struggle?

Some might say the first step to persevering with hope is to start by “acknowledging the good and the bad” in life...and I would suggest instead of looking at what is happening in your life as good or bad; Acknowledge the easy and the hard...or maybe even where there is resistance and where there is ease....does it feel like you are gliding down a slide with ease or climbing up a steep mountain right now?

When we go beyond seeing things as good or bad, lucky or unlucky-we also recognize that all things can be used for our betterment and growth.

  1. It is important to RECOGNIZE THE HARD -because having HOPE is not simply ignoring trials or pretending that everything is OK. You can’t move into action or create needed changes if you don’t face truths. Hope is not about ignoring reality: It's about maintaining a positive outlook even when facing difficulties.
  2. So you first acknowledge where you are at and then step 2- think about “where do I want to be?” VISUALIZE what you want to see happening. VISUALIZE YOUR GOAL and what it will feel like to obtain it and what your life will be like when you have it.
  3. CREATE A HOPE PATHWAY”. Hope begets hope. When we are successful we are more motivated to persevere. The best way to get success on your HOPE PATHWAY is to take small steps in the direction you want to go. Soo...
  4. REMIND YOURSELF OF YOUR WHY BEHIND WHAT YOU ARE DOING. Remember your WHY. There isn’t a right or wrong reason to want something in your life. But know that if you are doing it for someone else, your desire may not be as strong nor the results as lasting. And if you look to movies, dramas, Youtubers, Realty TV shows and Hollywood culture as your role models. Remember that if your reasons stem from fear, self loathing, a desire for revenge, a need for power or from jealousy- your feelings of satisfaction when you obtain your goal will be short lived...because these emotions only crave for more...true peace, contentment and joy will always be just out of your reach. If you feel like giving up-remember why you started in the first place and figure out a worthy why to go after.
  5. SURROUND YOURSELF WITH SUPPORTIVE PEOPLE. Whether it is a paid trainer, a life coach or therapist who is your cheerleader or it is your best friend or your family...connecting with others who will help lighten your load on your HOPE PATHWAY. FIND YOUR PEOPLE. And that includes Seeking professional help when needed-If you are struggling with overwhelming challenges, consider therapy to develop coping mechanisms and build resilience.
  6. Essentially-Persevering with HOPE MEANS you are actively nurturing a belief that things can get better and that your efforts will lead to positive change. In other words-you have faith. FAITH is a foundational seed that needs to be watered and cared for often so that it can grow!! #6 HAVING HOPE TAKES ACTION.
  7. The ability to find joy in your circumstances is directly tied to how much time you spend CULTIVATING THE ATTITUDE OF GRATITUDE. Being happy in your surroundings has less to do with your surroundings and more to do with what you are focusing on in that space.
  8. Be patient w
