637 - Coronavirus From the Frontlines with Michelle Charfen, MD
Momentum for the Entrepreneurial Personality Type (EPT)
07/16/20 • 43 min
When I talk to someone who believes that the seriousness of COVID-19 is overblown or a hoax, I ask them one question. "Have you talked to anyone on the frontlines, someone who is actually dealing with this?"
The majority of the time their response is “no”.
I understand that most people do not have the ability to call up an ER doctor or epidemiologist and ask them questions. At the same time, the fear and confusion around what is happening is real. I am lucky enough to have the ability to ask a professional for information, and a platform to share it with entrepreneurs like you.
Today, I want to introduce you to my sister, Michelle. She is currently an ER doctor in Los Angeles county. Every week since the coronavirus first hit California I’ve been able to talk to her. Listening to her perspective after having been in emergency rooms for the last 19 years has clarified a lot for me.
Michelle joined me on my podcast this week and I'm excited for you to meet her. It was a unique experience having Michelle as a little sister. When my mom asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up, I'm pretty sure I told her a fire truck. Michelle knew she wanted to be a doctor for as long as I can remember, and she is younger than me. The principal at my school had to give me an exception to graduate because I had missed so many classes, she had the highest GPA in our high school's history.
While I was transferring from college to college before finally dropping out, Michelle went to Stanford for her undergrad and obtained her MD from Harvard Medical School. She then completed a residency in Emergency Medicine and a Fellowship in Research at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center during which she obtained a Masters of Epidemiology from UCLA.
Michelle was gracious enough to sit down with me and answer the questions that so many people have. The conversation that we had was enlightening, revealing, and insightful. I'm excited to share it so that you can understand what is happening with the virus and how you make the right decisions to keep you and your family safe.

515 - Charfen Update: 24 Months in Business
Momentum for the Entrepreneurial Personality Type (EPT)
07/03/19 • 21 min
We just had the close of our second full year in business. The last six months have been exceptional for us. Our company has been growing like crazy. One of the major things we’ve focused on is planning. I always say that if you don’t have a plan, you’re going to be the biggest bottleneck. We’ve used our strategic planning process to coach 100’s of millions of dollars in growth with our clients. Another thing we’ve really cracked down on is documentation of key processes and simplifying everything we possibly can to scale.
To put things into context, in September of last year, we pulled all of our paid marketing so I could get out of sales and delivery. As a result, we grew our team to 15 people and had our most profitable year yet. We also launched our newest product, Billionaire Code Foundation. We started the Foundation with a small beta group. Our goal was 25 sales, and we ended at 32, with NO paid marketing. In the past few months, we also dealt with some serious health issues with my wife, Cadey. With my wife out of commission and me working at 30% productivity, our business still grew thanks to our incredible team. I can’t stress this enough...having the right team is everything.
We’re currently at a $3 million run rate and on our way to the $3 - $10 million growth phase on the Billionaire Code. Stepping into this leader phase and delegating success has led us to have an amazing team culture. But the biggest and most exciting thing that has happened in the last two years is our client success stories. So many of our clients are exploding and hitting new milestones. Tune into the show for a full overview of what the past 24 months in business have looked like for us!

721 - I Got Rid of Commissions and This is What Happened...
Momentum for the Entrepreneurial Personality Type (EPT)
05/18/21 • 31 min
About ten months ago, I had an idea... (An idea that is practically unheard of in business and would go against all industry standards) I wanted to eliminate high-pressure sales and commission-based sales reps in our company. Instead, I wanted to create a purely consultative sales experience with our Coaches and zero commissions. Alex Charfen, a business growth coach who helps entrepreneurs grow and scale their businesses, gives practical, tangible, and actionable tips that you can implement into your business right now. When I shared this with a few close friends, they told me I was crazy, it wouldn’t work, and it was impossible... Still, I had this firm belief that it could work and my team stood behind me. The results have been incredible and far beyond what I expected. By the end of this episode of the Momentum Podcast, you will learn how: - We immediately started converting more when we removed the commission and pressure. Ten months later, we are exceeding the golden standard for high ticket conversions. - Removing commission sales and putting genuine consultative sales in place has completely shifted everything for our company. It’s increased the number of people coming into our high ticket programs, improved our delivery, adoption rate, and retention rate. - If you’ve been struggling with sales or felt frustrated with your commission sales process, this approach offers a different option and way to look at things. The Momentum Podcast is created specifically for entrepreneurs like you to get into momentum and take the rest of the world with you. If this episode helped you do that, take a moment and leave a review. Let us know how we have helped you make a bigger impact on the world. Coaches or consultants on your team could be the best sales closers you have. You might not need all the persuasion or pressure to get the right people into your programs. Joining me today are two of our Coaches, Nicole Zeien-Cox and Stephanie Mondragon. I wanted you to hear from them firsthand what this process looks like and how they approach sales with our members. Your business has the potential to change the world, and the only way to see that potential become a reality is to implement a strategic plan. 510 - Why People Torch the Place on the Way Out
Momentum for the Entrepreneurial Personality Type (EPT)
06/25/19 • 13 min
There’s a reason why people torch your business when they leave. Sometimes as an entrepreneur, you screw up and make a mistake, causing someone to quit. But more times than not, people go because they found a new opportunity. To justify leaving, people often blame their employer as part of the problem, making it their fault. They know they have no integrity if they just up and go. When employees want to leave, they usually create separation, so they have a reason more significant than just walking away.
Having someone go sideways in your organization is a natural part of leading human beings. Know that if you’re going to lead people, you’re going to run into this issue. If this situation happens to you, don’t criticize the person who is leaving. Make sure you are transparent with your team and don’t let it affect how you treat the rest of your employees. As a leader, take responsibility, live above the line, care about the team you have left, move forward, and create massive momentum.
When you’re ready, here are a few ways my team and I can help scale your business:

34 - Client Centric Mission
Momentum for the Entrepreneurial Personality Type (EPT)
09/25/17 • 11 min
This is a question I get often from entrepreneurs, especially those who have achieved a level of success and financial stability. It is surprising for each of us when we recognize this loss of passion, drive or enthusiasm. Out of nowhere, we realize that we are approaching the day to day with a less than enthusiastic attitude. We may no longer feel like our activities are inspiring or exciting and we recognize we are simply going through the motions. This does not usually last long, we either need to be inspired and compelled to go forward or we will have a difficult time getting things done. Eventually, a loss of passion can lead to procrastination, missed deadlines, and even what appears to be self-limiting behaviors and self-sabotage. There is only one consistent way that I have seen entrepreneurs reignite their passion, create the excitement they once felt and get back into momentum.
494 - Avoiding Team Tantrums
Momentum for the Entrepreneurial Personality Type (EPT)
05/28/19 • 15 min
This episode is for anyone who’s had team members throw a tantrum. The kind of tantrum where they blow up and act unacceptable. They completely shock you with their behavior and perform out of the ordinary from how they have previously been. In the future, here’s how to prevent them from torching the place on the way out.
It may be hard to hear, but these tantrums could be a result of something you are doing. It’s important to not blame the person for being crazy or assume there’s something wrong with them. When there’s incongruency in a business’s leadership, you can trigger childhood feelings and rebellion against authority.
A leader can trigger these childhood behavioral patterns by being incongruent or having miscommunication. These patterns can show in the forms of unhealthy competitions, meltdowns, playing managers, and ultimately acting just like a child. Tantrums can be avoided by creating clarity, dividing responsibilities, documenting, and having transparency with your team.
