Fans, friends, and family of the late Mikey Dread: You have our sincere thanks for your patience waiting for the final episode of Mikey’s incredible “Dread at the Controls” podcast. But we couldn’t think of a better occasion than Jamaica’s National Heroes Day to release Episode 6, and also to pay tribute to Mikey Dread in several ways. Please take a few moments to read our tribute to him, and also to download what we consider one of Mikey’s best cuts.
Episode 6 of Dread at the Controls was sent to us shortly before Mikey’s passing, and unfortunately we don’t have a tracklisting to present for you. Still, you’ll recognize several of his selections, and it stands as one damn fine hour+ of roots reggae music. This episode is arguably one of the last things he produced, and we’re eternally grateful to have known the man and experienced first hand his immeasurable passion for life, music, and especially his roots.
Included below the download is a large zip file containing all six episodes of Dread at the Controls. Please, spread it around via bittorrent. Burn them to CD. Crank them in your backyard. Enjoy them with fine wine or fine herbs. Most importantly, remember that Mikey’s own music lives on at www.mikeydread.com, and his extensive catalog is still available for purchase.

EPISODE 5: DJ STYLE
Showcasing some of the prominent Jamaican DJ’s of the 1970’s.
In the USA, the DJ is called “The Selector.”
In Jamaica the DJ (man or woman) who works the microphone at a party, or dance, or studio recording is called the DJ. But in Jamaica the man or woman who PLAYS the music is called “The Selector.”
In the UK, the DJ on the record and sound system is called a “Toaster!!”
