Whether one wants screamingly funny short stories (as in those by Jeffrey Feingold) or endlessly entertaining digressions into asthma and housefires and petrichor and headless horsemen and social critique and whatever anyone happens to be reading or listening to that week, they’ve got you covered. The focus is largely on poetry—with a wide swath of writers represented mixing in many you may have heard of with many voices likely laboring just at or beyond the periphery of view. Writers I loved here include people such as Gayle Brandeis (my god—a novel of a poetry book about Countess Bathory bathing in the blood of her victims), Joshua Michael Stewart, Lillian Necakov, John Yamrus, Jane Yolen, Scott Ferry, Nadia Arioli, Gary Metras, Connolly Ryan (who writes sensuously of the carefully observed and bird-filled natural world). The entertainment is backed by a sense of deep social engagement somehow made natural and fun. Also there is a DIY and community-building ethic with publishing shop-talk mixed in with many live recordings of readings such as those at “Poetry, Prose, and Pints” or even the wild bacchanalias M4T hosts at quarterly magazine release parties with western Mass luminaries such as Kim Gordon occasionally playing. Gayle Brandeis—in speaking of an almost greek chorus of murdered women in her above-mentioned book (Many Restless Concerns)—describes them as “…pooling their power to show how voices can be stronger together.” That’s kind of what goes on with the curation here. The interplay of artistic affinities meets blood, meets meat, and sips tea to talk about it later.

Just listened the S5 E15 with Cristian Livermore. She's a fantastic author, and the pieces she read from her books were beautiful. And Elizabeth is a great interviewer who makes the discussions feel like the best conversations you could eavesdrop on. I'm entertained and learn so much with every episode!

This is by far my favorite podcast. I love all of the interesting and inspiring talent that is featured, and Elizabeth and Mark are adept at the art of artsy conversation. Regarding the recent podcast featuring John Sheirer’s one hundred-word stories, here is my one-word review, “Brilliant!!”
