We are excited to be joined by Dr. Joel Kahn.
Dr. Kahn is a cardiologist and a Clinical Professor of Medicine at Wayne State University School of Medicine and a Summa Cum Laude graduate from the University of Michigan Medical School.
He’s known as “America’s Holistic Heart Doc,” and has authored many peer-reviewed articles and book chapters. He writes articles for MindBodyGreen, Thrive Global, and Reader’s Digest and has five books in publication including The Whole Heart Solution, Dead Execs Don’t Get Bonuses as well as The Plant-Based Solution.
He has regular appearances on Dr. Phil, The Doctors, and Fox 2 News. He also recently debated with Chris Kresser about the evidence in support of plant-based diets on the Joe Rogan Experience and has been featured with Larry King Live in a recent special about heart health.
He also owns 2 health restaurants in Detroit and a food truck in Austin, Texas. How he accomplishes all of this is a complete mystery to us, but suffice it to say that Dr. Kahn is a MACHINE, he’s our favorite stand-up comedian, and we’re honored to call him a friend.
In this episode of the Mastering Diabetes Audio Experience, we’ll cover:
- An article he recently wrote in which he referred to low-carbohydrate diets as “high-coffin” diets, because there is ample scientific evidence that low-carbohydrate diets actually increase your risk for premature death.
- Why, despite this, many health professionals teach people to INCREASE their intake of meat, cheese, fish, eggs, and vegetable oil, claiming that it’s the best way to “reverse” type 2 diabetes specifically because they are low in carbohydrate energy.
- What benefits would someone gain from becoming a plant-based low-carbohydrate eater?
- What are the exact benefits of short-term ketosis referenced by Dr. Valter Longo and how do those benefits change over time?
- What happens to blood lipids and specifically LDL cholesterol following a plant-based low-carbohydrate or ketogenic diet?
- What happens to diabetes risk and blood glucose control following a plant-based low-carbohydrate or ketogenic diet?
- If there was ONE THING you could say to teach people the truth about nutrition to clear up the confusion that the Internet promotes, what would it be?
