Marijanel Show - Finding Your It Factor
play

02/27/23 • 38 min

057. What makes heads turn? What shifts the entire atmosphere of a room when someone walks in? Not bravado. Not insecurity, but confidence. It's what you've been admiring in the people you look up to, it's what you've been wishing for in your life and creativity.
Today on the show, we're going to talk about how to build confidence in your life. And by the end of today's show, you'll have a new sense of self-assurance that will serve you well in any situation.
I'm going to tell you all about what I've been learning from two books I'm reading... The Confidence Code by Katty Kay, and Claire Shipman and Find your Voice by Caroline Goyder. I started those books because I wanted to explore how creativity, confidence and purpose are related, and what it means for me to become the most confident content creator and podcaster that I can be in my lifetime.
I talk about what taking your rightful place in authority and confidence means to me, and how it affects our sense of belonging, and the ways we tend to apologize for ourselves instead of simply be in a state of confidence. I share how I was recently the director on a film set and how I needed to exude confidence to put the whole crew at ease and what the producer ended up telling me after the shoot.
You'll hear a definition of true confidence that will really take the lid off and expose both extremes, arrogance and insecurity, for the lies they are. We think about what it really is about that person who walks in the room with confidence that changes the environment...their body language, introductions, natural ability to give away confidence rather than suck attention. This leads us to explore the IT Factor and how to find YOURS!
Get ready for an inspirational deep dive! You're going to get so much confidence out of this show, so get ready for the boost as you hit download!

Marijanel Show - Why I've Only Kissed One Man (Ever!!!)
play

02/12/23 • 31 min

055. Do you believe me? I've only kissed one man in my life.

It's not because I'm not curious or that I don't want to try new things...I'm Curiosity's Apprentice after all. Here in this episode I'll tell you why I've only kissed one person and how I actually feel about it.

Have I missed out? Do I get bored? I'll tell you the truth.

I'll also give my top kissing tips compared to internet advice and how to teach your person what you want in a kiss. Is kissing an art and can someone learn it how you like it?

After 28 years of marriage I've learned it's never too late to show your partner what kind of kisses work best for you, even if it feels funny to do it.

I'll also share two incredible stories of extreme kindness that will blow your mind. Both stories are about a person who never puts himself in the spotlight and who makes it possible for others to shine. Not only will your heart be warmed and prompted toward acts of kindness but you will feel inspired to look for those qualities in the people you align your life with.

Who you spend time with Is who you become.

I've learned some valuable life lessons from watching my husband gold pan. You'll be deeply inspired to hear the connection I've made between wading through icy rivers and digging in the dirt for gold in the literal sense, and how metaphorically our lives require that kind of perseverance and patience to get to the true value.

You'll come away from today entertained with new kissing techniques and inspired to look for gold in your life and relationships

086. Ever been struck by a dream so big it felt divine, but found it completely at odds with your current reality? That was the pivotal moment of my life. A God-sized dream demanded a seismic shift in my actions, my lifestyle, and my understanding of the life I was living. Join me as I peel back the layers, revealing for the first time the mammoth dream(s) I've been nurturing. We’ll traverse the fascinating journey of dreaming and its potent influence on our choices and destinies.
The exploration doesn't end there. We'll explore the correlation between grand dreams and the discovery of our life's purpose.
I also reveal one of my own GSDs (God-Sized-Dreams) which is hiding in the form of a puppet. (I'm trying not to give a spoiler).
This episode does not shy away from the tough realities of altering life's course, the challenge of being creative in a niche world, and the art of making thoughtful yet powerful changes.
Whether your dreams feel larger than life or seem to have been side-lined, this conversation is going to get you motivated to start thinking about your ideas and dreams in a bigger more impactful way!

Marijanel Show - When You Ask "What's The Point?"
play

02/06/23 • 31 min

It's a question that we've all asked ourselves from time to time. "What's the point?" We all have moments where we stop and wonder and search for the reasons we're doing what we're doing.
Whether it be in our creative pursuits or any of our other endeavors, sometimes it can feel like the ferris wheel of life just keeps spinning around and around, never reaching its destination. We can go through burnout cycles over and over again without ever seeing the outcomes or results that we're really looking for.
And then, every once in a while, we'll just stop the madness and ask ourselves "What's the Point?"
I've been there too.

What we're really asking ourselves in those, what's the point moments is about deeper purpose, not just the purpose of your day to day activities, but of life. Yeah, I'm getting deep here, I'm talking about the meaning, you know, the meaning of life, the deeper purpose of how we're really making a difference in the world.
We're not asking what's the point of our day-to-day activities; (well maybe we are sometimes) but today we're going deeper than that—we're talking about life's deeper purpose. The meaning behind what we do with our lives, and how are we making a difference in the world.

I'll also update you on those 15 pounds I'm losing!
Welcome to the Marijanel Show Episode 054.

Marijanel Show - Learning to Wait: The Power of Intentional Time
play

09/12/23 • 21 min

080. Sometimes we've got big dreams but we're simply not ready yet. You know that feeling when you're trying to chase your dreams, but it feels like every time you make progress, you're knocked back again? I can't even tell you how many times I thought I was ready for something, only to find myself waiting longer, preparing and then waiting some more.
That's the theme of my show today. It's a tough pill to swallow, but waiting is an essential part of our journey. I share how, like a mountain climber, we need periods of preparation and learning before reaching our goals. I also open up about my own experience with illustrating a children's book, showing that even when you're 'ready', there could still be unexpected hurdles to overcome, and how I put the book away for six more months even after I held the first copy in my hands. I just wasn't ready.
There's a transformative power of waiting, the importance of intentional time, and it's an essential part of our creative process. It's not about slowing down or taking a break, but rather about finding the right balance between progress and pausing. Using the analogy of a potter and her unfinished pieces, I go into how waiting with a wholehearted and contented heart can be one of the most mature and responsible things we can do.
There's more, in todays show I also share ideas on how to make use of your time intentionally and find the encouragement to wait, even when it feels overwhelming. So, join us as we learn to appreciate that sometimes, it's okay to not be ready yet.

068. Do you find yourself constantly apologizing for things that don't require an apology? Do you downplay your accomplishments or seek approval excessively?
I've been there too, but in this episode, I share my personal experiences with an apologetic demeanor and encourage you to own your talents and express yourself confidently without apologizing.

In the discussion, I highlight three common ways in which people demonstrate an apologetic demeanor: excessive apologizing, downplaying accomplishments, and seeking approval excessively. I stress the importance of recognizing and owning your strengths and talents, even if you're just starting out.

Furthermore, I urge you to set boundaries and assert yourself in a polite and thoughtful manner, without seeking permission or approval excessively. I believe that having boundaries is vital to protect yourself from being bulldozed over in life and that apologizing for your boundaries is not helpful.

Join me in this inspiring episode, which offers free journal prompts, and challenge yourself to overcome your apologetic behavior and become more assertive. It's time to own your talents, set your boundaries, and express yourself confidently without apology!

087. As we approach 2024, the Marijanel Show is ready to embrace a new theme - creativity. Reflecting on our journey so far, we've covered topics such as purpose, mentorship, journaling, and self-worth in the past year. The journey hasn't been without its challenges, and personal setbacks...like my burnout this past summer... have shaped the narrative of my show. But remember, seasons don't last forever. The future promises an exciting new chapter, and trust me, you wouldn't want to miss out on the creative evolution that's happening.
Have you ever wondered about the intertwined connections that bind different facets of my life to the Marijanel Show? Let's take a stroll down memory lane as I share my own personal story of how the first 50 episodes of "Curiosity's Apprentice" served as a memoir of sorts. But, there's been a piece I've always held back: a significant failure from my days as a children's content creator. With my recent step back into children's book publishing, I'm ready to open up that vault and inspire you to embrace your creativity without fear of failure. So, grab a cup of coffee and join me as we embark on this journey of living wholeheartedly and creatively.
