On a glorious sunny Saturday afternoon at Old Trafford and in a rare 3pm kick-off, Manchester United delivered with 18-year-old Alejandro Garnacho sealing a deserved victory in a must-win game as the Reds close in on that top four spot in the Premier League and Champions League qualification.
Three games remain, away at Bournemouth and at home to West London duo Fulham and Chelsea. Two more victories will secure it. If they are as comfortable as Saturday, that’ll do. Wolves hadn’t a single shot on target while United had nine, and should have scored more. Erik ten Hag aptly reviewed: “Again we make the goalie of the opposition the man of the match.”
Down at Wembley on Sunday, things were not so rosy. A world record crowd watched Manchester United Women’s first FA Cup final but the Reds couldn’t convert a dominant, expectation-shattering first-half display into an advantage and instead it was relentless winners Chelsea who were clinical and won it 1-0 with Sam Kerr scoring in a third consecutive FA Cup final. When the tears dry a little, attention will turn to the WSL title race between the same two sides.
On the Manchester United Weekly Podcast this week, Harry Robinson and Jack Tait review the Women’s FA Cup Final (1-10 minutes), the men’s victory over Wolves (10-35 minutes), the end to the Academy season, some loanee highlights and loads more. Enjoy the show!
In the Patreon-only Q&A, we talk Harry Kane, Michael Carrick and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
