Happy New Year Reds, and happy three points. Manchester United, the in-form team of the country. Entertaining, consistent. Winning! It's brilliant.

Welcome to the Manchester United Weekly Podcast in 2021 with Harry Robinson and Jack Tait. A hard-fought, close defensive clash that went United's way against Wolves - the most boring team in the league - is followed by a genuinely brilliant and entertaining, end-to-end win against Aston Villa. Two teams who are fun to watch right now producing one of the most compelling, quality behind-closed-doors games of the COVID era.

Harry Robinson and Jack Tait talk through a whole load of topics. Villa, Wolves, outstanding Pogba, revived Shaw, brilliant Bruno, nose-breaking Martial, blocking Bailly, excellent Ole, banned Cavani plus loads more including Amad Diallo and Facundo Pellistri.

Plus you get a bonus Q&A session. This is what Patrons get every week in return for paying a little bit of cash every month. It's a New Year's treat for you all. If you're interested in hearing it every week, sign up to our Patreon at www.patreon.com/ManUtdWeeklyPod

Contradictions, fickleness and mind-blowing stupidity sums up Manchester United fans on Twitter. So, hosts Harry Robinson and Jack Tait try and dissect the issues of our pre-season tour of the USA without showing any of that.

We talk performances against Real Madrid in a 2-1 win, Liverpool in a 4-1 loss and AC Milan and San Jose Earthquakes.

We’re talking Mourinho, Martial, Alexis, Andreas Pereira, and some pretty big debates as well, actually, mainly around Jose Mourinho and his Man United future.

Manchester United Weekly Podcast - S9 E16: Patreon mailbag - October international break
play

10/14/23 • 72 min

In this Patreon mailbag episode, hosts Harry Robinson and Jack Tait talk themes such as:

  • The future of MUFC as the Qatari bid to buy the club withdraws
  • Will the injury time win against Brentford kick start United's season?
  • How would we sum up the last 10 years at Old Trafford?
  • What is the club's greatest achievement and worst moment in the last decade?
  • What one question would you ask our last six managers if you could sit in a room with them, with no NDAs and a truth serum?
  • What we've made of Ange Postecoglu at Spurs?

And much, much more, including Harry's upcoming book, The Men Who Made Manchester United, out on MONDAY! If you've enjoyed the podcast over the last couple of years, buying this is the best way you can support the show.

The Men Who Made Manchester United is the fascinating, oft-forgotten story of how youth, courage and success came to define England's biggest football club before Busby, Best, Charlton, Ferguson, Cantona, Beckham or Ronaldo. Read and you will discover:

  • How Manchester United got its name and its colours via a steak-munching tongue-out St. Bernard dog, a knocked-out cycling accountant and a poisoned beer crisis
  • The in-depth story of United’s first successful team - two-time champions (1908, 1911) and FA Cup winners (1909) - including their new European tour, on which they were chased out of Budapest by stone-throwing hooligans
  • The inspiration and planning behind United’s move to their iconic Old Trafford stadium
  • The lives, characters and motivations of United’s first great manager, player and captain
  • Why, how and when the club’s world-famous Academy was set up
  • How the founding and survival of the Professional Footballers’ Association was defined by Manchester United’s ‘outcast’ stars
  • How Matt Busby was set up for success by the determined, two-steps-at-a-time football fanatic Walter Crickmer, who almost single-handedly dragged United through a six-year global war.
  • How trade unionism, industrialisation, the railways, public school masculinity, European nationalism and feminism frames the early story of English football and Manchester United.
  • The untold early histories of rivalries with Manchester City, Liverpool and Leeds United.

S8 E54: Wolves (2-0, h) + Women's FA Cup Final

Manchester United Weekly Podcast

play

05/14/23 • 46 min

On a glorious sunny Saturday afternoon at Old Trafford and in a rare 3pm kick-off, Manchester United delivered with 18-year-old Alejandro Garnacho sealing a deserved victory in a must-win game as the Reds close in on that top four spot in the Premier League and Champions League qualification.

Three games remain, away at Bournemouth and at home to West London duo Fulham and Chelsea. Two more victories will secure it. If they are as comfortable as Saturday, that’ll do. Wolves hadn’t a single shot on target while United had nine, and should have scored more. Erik ten Hag aptly reviewed: “Again we make the goalie of the opposition the man of the match.”

Down at Wembley on Sunday, things were not so rosy. A world record crowd watched Manchester United Women’s first FA Cup final but the Reds couldn’t convert a dominant, expectation-shattering first-half display into an advantage and instead it was relentless winners Chelsea who were clinical and won it 1-0 with Sam Kerr scoring in a third consecutive FA Cup final. When the tears dry a little, attention will turn to the WSL title race between the same two sides.

On the Manchester United Weekly Podcast this week, Harry Robinson and Jack Tait review the Women’s FA Cup Final (1-10 minutes), the men’s victory over Wolves (10-35 minutes), the end to the Academy season, some loanee highlights and loads more. Enjoy the show!

In the Patreon-only Q&A, we talk Harry Kane, Michael Carrick and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
