Episode 76 - Andy Prieboy (Wall of Voodoo, Solo)
Lived Through That
05/14/25 • 30 min
“Lived Through That” is the companion podcast to my book where I look at influential musicians of the 80s and 90s and where they are today. On this podcast, we’ll delve deeper into a single pivotal moment in the lives of some of the artists I feature in that book, as well as other artists I love and admire. The stories they tell are open, honest, and inspiring.
Our guest this week is Andy Prieboy. Andy is a songwriter and musician who was the lead singer for Wall of Voodoo after Stan Ridgway left the band in 1984. Andy went on to do a few solo records, create a well-known cult musical called White Trash Wins Lotto, and wrote one of my favorite songs of the 90s,”Tomorrow, Wendy” – which was famously recorded by Concrete Blonde on their 1990 record Bloodletting. Today, Andy tells us a pretty incredible story about a mystery song he became obsessed with back in the day. I think the less I tell you about it, the better! Music credits:

On this episode, I’m excited to bring you my conversation with Stephen Duffy! Stephen was one of the founding members of a little band called Duran Duran – maybe you’ve heard of them? He left to do is own thing with Simon LeBon taking his place and the rest is history for both Duran Duran and Stephen Duffy. Duffy had many twists and turns in his career and has a list of bands and accomplishments to go with it. He had a huge hit under the name Stephen Tin Tin Duffy with “Kiss Me With Your Mouth." But it’s his band the Lilac Time that emerged in 1987 with their self-titled debut that has endured and blossomed. The Lilac Time are currently back with a fantastic new album, Dance Till All The Stars Come Down, that’s available everywhere you get your music.

I can’t believe how lucky I am this week to have Sleater-Kinney’s own Corin Tucker on the show!
Today she talks with us about the process of creating 2005’s album, “The Woods.” “The Woods” is a raw and emotional album – and, if judging by the new album’s first single “Hell,” their new album Little Rope seems to be have been borne from a similar emotional place.
