Leadership School - Ep. 52: Learning Confidence with Minna Taylor
play

12/15/22 • 44 min

Have you ever worked with a leader who wasn't confident? It's hard to trust them, tough to follow their lead. Confident leaders, on the other hand, build trust and create momentum. If you've wanted to feel more confident in your leadership roles, this episode makes it really clear how to do just that.
We're talking with Minna Taylor, and she tells us how confidence is actually a behavior and an action - a skill that you can learn. It's not a personality trait. We'll cover:

  • How confidence appears in your body and where to find it
  • The value of "yes, and"
  • What to do instead of "fake it 'til you make it"

Minna Taylor is the author of The Confident Body and the Founder of Energize Your Voice (WBE), a NYC based communication coaching and training firm. With an experiential approach, rooted in the principles of play and performance, she and her team support organizations, individuals, and entrepreneurs to explore their full potential in public speaking, storytelling, and leadership communication. Notable clients include UBER, Red Bull, Citi, and E&Y.
Minna earned her BFA from NYU Tisch and went on to earn her MFA in Performance with a concentration in speech and vocal production. Beginning her career as an accent reduction specialist, Minna went on to transfer her theatre training to developing an innovative approach for professional development. Her book, The Confident Body: a functional approach to unlocking your full potential, is now available on Amazon.

06/16/22 • 53 min

Our guest today is David Dawdy. He teaches us what the phrase, "trauma informed" means, and how we can apply that to our leadership skills. Through the lens of his expertise in the criminal justice system, David tells us:

  • What to do when someone you know opens up about their trauma
  • What our role is as leaders of people who've experienced trauma
  • How to lead an employee who's been through the criminal justice system

David Dawdy has a Master of Arts degree in Clinical Psychology, and has worked in multiple fields of behavioral health treatment for nearly 25 years, including outpatient counseling, crisis stabilization, inpatient, substance abuse, and youth residential programs.
