LAB-362-Dirt And Adventure Motorcycle Riding With Oscar And Big Daddy Kane | Part 2 of 2
Law Abiding Biker | Street Biker Motorcycle Podcast
03/08/24 • 100 min
Official Website: https://www.lawabidingbiker.com
In this Part 2 of 2 episode, Lurch and I are joined by Oscar and Big Daddy Kane. We talk about adventure motorcycle riding and dirt bikes. Oscar and Big Daddy haven't been on a mic in a while and we're glad to have them. We are street riding centric here at Law Abiding Biker but we are getting deeper in the adventure and dirt riding scene.
The middle-weight adventure motorcycle market is blowing up. It seems to be one of the fastest-growing segments of the motorcycle market. All of the manufacturers are coming out with 600 to 800-cc adventure bikes. Oscar and Big Daddy Kane are a wealth of knowledge when it comes to the new bikes and which ones they prefer. Lurch and I are still hoping for a middle-weight Harley-Davidson Pan America to come out!
SUPPORT US AND SHOP IN THE OFFICIAL LAW ABIDING BIKER STOREOscar digs into the dirt bike arena. He recently bought a Husqvarna 450 FE and spent a lot of time dirt riding this last summer. He got into racing and is loving the single track. I want to get into dirt bike riding but I may have to wait until I only have one job. Unfortunately, I just don't have the time right now.

LAB-350-Apps We've Tested And Used For Motorcycle Trips | What You Need To Know
Law Abiding Biker | Street Biker Motorcycle Podcast
11/09/23 • 111 min
Official Website: https://www.lawabidingbiker.com
In this episode, I'm joined by Lurch and we talk about the motorcycle apps we have tested and used. We also talk about some that we no longer use. Mapping, weather, location sharing, and other motorcycle apps can make your trip much more seamless. Over the years we've narrowed our list of apps down to what we think are the best.
Motorcycle apps can be highly beneficial to riders in several ways. Here are some of the key advantages:
- Navigation and GPS: Many motorcycle-specific apps offer specialized navigation features designed for riders. They can provide routes that take into account factors like winding roads, and scenic routes, and avoid highways. Some apps also offer offline maps, which can be crucial in areas with limited or no cellular coverage.
- Safety Features: Some apps include features aimed at enhancing rider safety. These can include real-time traffic updates, accident alerts, and road hazard notifications. Additionally, some apps have features that can track your ride and notify emergency contacts in case of an accident.
- Maintenance and Service: There are apps available that help riders keep track of their motorcycle's maintenance schedule. They can send reminders for services like oil changes, tire replacements, and other regular maintenance tasks.
- Community and Social Interaction: Many motorcycle apps have social features that allow riders to connect with others in the motorcycle community. This can include forums, group rides, event listings, and the ability to share routes or experiences. SUPPORT US AND SHOP IN THE OFFICIAL LAW ABIDING BIKER STORE
- Weather Updates: Some motorcycle apps provide real-time weather updates, which can be crucial for planning rides and avoiding inclement weather.
- Fuel and Expense Tracking: Apps can help riders keep track of fuel expenses and mileage. This can be useful for budgeting and for planning longer trips.
- Route Planning and Sharing: Many apps allow riders to plan routes in advance, often with features that let you customize the type of roads you prefer. You can also share your routes with other riders or save them for future reference.
- Gear and Accessories Shopping: Some apps have integrated online stores where riders can shop for motorcycle gear, accessories, and parts. This can be convenient for finding and purchasing the equipment you need.
- Rider Statistics and Analytics: Certain apps can track and analyze your riding habits, providing insights on factors like speed, distance, and even lean angles on turns. This information can be valuable for improving your riding skills.
- Insurance and Documentation: Some apps allow you to store important documents like your motorcycle registration, insurance, and license digitally. This can be a handy backup in case you forget or lose your physical copies.
- Event and Ride Planning: Many motorcycle apps have features that allow users to find and join group rides, as well as discover motorcycle-related events and meetups happening in their area.
Overall, motorcycle apps can enhance the riding experience by providing tools and resources that cater specifically to the needs and interests of motorcyclists. They can help riders plan and execute safer, more enjoyable journeys.

LAB-184-Is Harley-Davidson Failing to Connect to its Core Customers? Marketing Mayhem?
Law Abiding Biker | Street Biker Motorcycle Podcast
09/14/18 • 105 min
Official website: https://www.lawabidingbiker.com
Over the past several years the Harley Marketing Team seems to have taken the wrong path & made some poor decisions. It's understandable to most riders that Harley-Davidson as a company needs to stay legitimate & boost sales in an ever-changing market. However, many of Harley's most hardcore and brand loyal customers feel the Motor Company is losing touch with them.
Based on Harley's cheaper priced, smaller & lighter motorcycle line-up of Street and Sportster series, it's clear they're trying to draw new younger riders. This makes sense as their core customer base is now middle age or older. In their quest for new younger riders, Harley seems to be forgetting who is still feeding them and they're not paying attention to their core customer base. If Harley ignores and loses their core customers they will be in big trouble.
Harley has a YouTube channel, but it just doesn't connect with riders. Their videos are overproduced and lack any real useful information. It is typical for large companies like Harley to fail on YouTube. They just haven't learned their way around YouTube yet and what viewers actually want.
The Harley Marketing Team needs to take a step back and see the big picture. Last year in some sort of unorganized unveil they gave brand new Harley's to ungrateful Hollywood personalities who clearly did not care at all about the bikes. This sort of marketing is so behind the times and they must realize that core Harley riders don't care at all about Hollywood personalities. It actually upset the majority of Harley riders when they saw the unveil. This sort of outdated marketing doesn't connect with true Harley riders & was a complete waste of time and money for the Harley Marketing Team.
Instead of chasing after Hollywood, old outdated print magazines, and dying radio, they need to do what many large companies have figured out years ago & are currently doing. Companies like Apple, DJI, and Samsung, just to name a few, have realized that working with YouTube creators and influencers is way more powerful than the old ways of doing business. This is how you truly connect with your customers these days.
Today, customers want a more real world review from a YouTube creator they know, like, and trust, rather than some Hollywood star or personality they could care less about. They want an unbiased review from a creator that actually uses and tests the products they care about. An unbiased review holds way more weight than Harley or any big company trying to tell an audience how great their product is.
These progressive companies as mentioned above give select YouTube creators & podcasters early access to information and products as to cause excitement with the audience and their customers. They then make sure these creators have access and are the first to review new products when there is an unveiling.
This is nothing new and is very powerful, yet Harley has clearly not figured this out. Open your eyes, Harley. The Harley Marketing Team is failing to see the very large communities of core customers right on YouTube. All they'd have to do is read some of the comments on the videos on the Law Abiding Biker YouTube Channel to get a real feel of what their core customers like and don't like.
The Harley Marketing Team should go after independent YouTube and podcast creators rather than persons with a YouTube channel that work for dealerships. Content and reviews just can't be completely unbiased if someone works for a dealership and Harley riders know this.
That's just one suggestion of many that the Harley Marketing Team could work on. You'll have to listen in to this podcast episode to hear our passionate opinions into what we believe Harley is currently doing right and what they are doing wrong.

LAB-83-Biker Gripper Cell Phone, GPS, Radar Detector, & EFI Tuner Motorcycle Mounting Solution | Absolutely Nothing Better!
Law Abiding Biker | Street Biker Motorcycle Podcast
07/31/15 • 91 min
Official Website: http://www.lawabidingbiker.com
PODCAST-The Biker Gripper is absolutely the best cell phone/smartphone, GPS, EFI Tuner, and radar detector mounting solution on the market. We here at Law Abiding BikerTM Podcast & Media tested it for a long period of time, over thousands of miles, on different bikes, Mounted it in different positions, and while holding different devices. Believe it when I say your device will not come out of the 18 lbs of grip strength the Biker Gripper provides.
Over several years the Biker Gripper went through a couple violent motorcycle crashes here at Law Abiding BikerTM. First was my high side crash on my 2011 Harley Davidson Street Glide in Oregon. Yup, a complete high side after getting squirley in some gravel around a corner. My Harley was nearly totaled and laying on it's side. My iPhone did not move and was still secured and untouched in the Biker Gripper! That was my first thought that we should put our logo on this thing and sell it in our own store to bikers who want the best. I totally believe the good Lord was watching over me when I high sided and it was a lower speed. I was flung like Superman into some soft powder type dirt just past the shoulder of the road! I had no real injuries to speak of.
Next, Chewy was riding two up with his wife on the back of his 2013 Harley Davidson Street Glide and slid low side. The bike slid away from them and violently smashed into a guard rail. The bike hit the guard rail so hard that it stood back up and traveled another 50' or so along the guard rail before falling over again. It hit the guard rail so hard that one of his saddlebags exploded so to speak & the bike was just shy of being totaled with a bent frame. Chewy and his wife had road rash, but other than that they got out of it okay. Yup, you guessed it-in the Biker Gripper was his iPhone 6 Plus completely untouched! Now, I love the Biker Gripper, but I never imagined that it would stay in on such a violent crash, so it even surprised me.
We trust the Biker Gripper so much that we put our own Law Abiding Biker logo on it and our stamp of approval. It is truly biker tested and we carry it exclusively in the Law Abiding Biker Store. It is the sexiest, sleekest, and strongest cell phone motorcycle mount on the market. Don't settle for all the cheap ugly cell phone motorcycle mounts on the internet, eBay, and Amazon. If you want the best then the Biker Gripper Cell Phone, GPS, Radar Detector, and EFI Tuner motorcycle mount is for you!
You really need to listen in to this Podcast episode to hear the stories and get all the information.

LAB-82-2015 Harley Road Glide Dealership Purchase Process-Lurch gets a new bike!
Law Abiding Biker | Street Biker Motorcycle Podcast
07/17/15 • 94 min
Official Website: http://www.lawabidingbiker.com
PODCAST & VIDEO-In this video Lurch and I ride to the Rattlesnake Mountain Harley-Davidson dealership at 3305 W 19th Ave, Kennewick, WA 99338. Lurch has a plan to trade in his 2008 Harley Street Glide for a 2015 Harley Road Glide Special. Although I have always personally liked the look of the batwing style fairing on the Street Glide models, Harley has re-designed the shark nose fairing on the 2015 Road Glide models and I like the new look much better.
Lurch and his 2015 Road Glide
Lurch is 6 foot 6 inches tall, so because of the fixed fairing (does not turn with the handlebars) we will be able to install 13" ape handlebars and push them forward farther. This will give Lurch a more stretched out and comfortable riding position. The bars can not be pushed as far forward on the Street Glide, because of the different fairing that turns with the bars.

VIDEO & BLOG-In this video I had some time with a 2015 Harley Davidson Road Glide in what Harley is calling "mysterious red sunglo" & it is beautiful! Harley took 2014 off on producing the Road Glide, so I was excited to check this bike out! I shot some awesome video and photographed the bike.
There is also the Road Glide Special for 2015, which is essentially the same bike, but comes with some extra goodies. The special comes standard with the upgraded larger 6.5 inch touch screen version of the new "Boom!TM Box" infotainment/GPS system, a security system, and Premium low hand-adjustable rear suspension, which I like much better from experience in riding with both. Here is a free video & information I released on how to properly adjust the low hand adjustable rear suspension. The special also comes with a finished off shiny black painted inner dash instead of the matte black finish on the standard model. Note that the larger 6.5-inch touch-screen Boom!TM Box/GPS system is an option on the standard model. Harley-Davidson touring models first came out with the Boom!TM Box system in 2014 as part of Project Rushmore.
Now, although the Boom!TM Box Infotainment System is pretty awesome, it does come with a fairly steep learning curve that has frustrated many Harley owners until now. In fact, most owners of the Boom!TM Box system have no idea about the hidden menus, bugs, issues, necessary software updates, mapping integration, nor the system's full overall capabilities. With my #1 viewed Harley-Davidson Boom!TM Box Infotainment System instructional videos I straighten that learning curve out for motorcyclists/bikers and relieve the stress. These videos have received rave reviews from the motorcycle/biker community and for that I thank you!

The feature that most distinguishes the Road Glide from the other touring models is its fixed frame-mount “shark-nose” fairing and dual front headlights. The handlebars move inside the fairing, which stays put. On other touring models, such as the Street Glide, the handlebars move with the fairing and it is often called the "batwing" fairing. First seen on the 2014 touring models, the Road Glide now sports the upper fairing vent with a manual switch to shut it off in inclement weather. This vent is to minimize head buffeting by putting a curtain of air (wall) in front of you, forcing the oncoming air up and over your helmet while riding. My 2014 Street Glide special has this fairing vent and I have ridden a ton. My estimation is that it reduces head buffeting by 20-30 percent, so it is well worth it.
In addition to the main upper vent are two vents to each side of the headlights, which are “Dual Reflector Daymaker LED” headlights. Harley says these headlights have significantly more spread and greater punch than standard headlights. Harley-Davidson is calling this new three-way air venting system the “triple splitstream vent”. Because the fixed fairing sits way further forward from the rider than on other models, the two additional lower vents are designed to lift the airflow per Harley-Davidson. The dramatic reduction in head buffeting has not only improved rider comfort, but also the listening quality of the Boom!TM Box sound system.
A new handlebar bend reduces rider reach by 5.5 inches, which improves long-range comfort. Revised hand controls (just like 2014 models) have improved ergonomics, and a pair of thumb joysticks helps control the Boom!TM Box Infotainment and navigation. The standard comes with air-adjustable twin rear shocks. Here is a free video & information I released on how to adjust these air type shocks.
With the Rushmore Project Harley put the new hard injection-molded saddlebags, which are the same convenient easy-open units fo...

In this episode, I'm joined by Lurch and we give an update on the Law Abiding Biker Store We moved the Law Abiding Biker Store from Richland, WA to Union Gap, WA in June of 2023. Rick "Big Daddy Kane" and Brian "Goat" White ran the store successfully out of Richland for years. We can't thank them enough for their awesome work. The plan was always to bring the Law Abiding Biker store up to the Yakima, WA area. That plan came to fruition this year.
We were fortunate enough to purchase a building in Union Gap, WA that is right on Main Street. It's a great location for several reasons; it's centrally located between my house and Lurch's house, it has quick freeway access, and it's near shipping companies. The address for the Law Abiding Biker Store is 3302 Main Street, Union Gap, WA 98903.
SUPPORT US AND SHOP IN THE OFFICIAL LAW ABIDING BIKER STOREThe building had good bones but it was due for some much-needed love. We stripped out all the old technology and added up-to-date communications, security, and operations technology. We brought the electrical and plumbing up to date. The interior of the side occupied by the Law Abiding Biker Store was pained by Bob Dawson's Custom Painting. Bob is a long-time Patreon supporter of Law Abiding Biker. He did an outstanding job! Harley vs Indian: Below are some of the high points we discussed
- INDIAN CHIEFTAIN CLASSIC BASE PRICE: $26,749
- HARLEY STREET GLIDE SPECIAL BASE PRICE: $27,089
- DIFFERENCE OF $340
- INDIAN HAS THE THUNDERSTOKE 111 CI MOTOR
- 1811cc
- INDIAN HASN'T UPGRADED THAT 111 MOTOR FOR MANY YEARS NOW
- UNVEILED BACK IN 2013
- NOTHING SINCE THEN

- 2019 HD STREET GLIDE AND ROAD GLIDE SPECIALS COMING WITH 114 CI MOTOR STOCK
- Harley pros:
- For a tall rider, the Harley Road Glide special is very comfortable. The Street Glide is tighter for tall guys, but both excellent riding positions.
- Lots of accessory options with Harley. Way more than Indian!
- More saddlebag space in Harley
- Milwaukee-eight 107" ci motor has great power. Harley 107 ci motor has a touch more acceleration than the Indian Thunderstroke 111 with air, exhaust, and EFI tuner upgrades on both. So, the Milwaukee-eight 114" motor will definitely have more power.
- Accessories from manufacturer cost a bit less for Harley compared to Indian.
- More dealers nationwide f0r Harley-Davidson
- Harley has a long history with the brand and bikes
- Harley touring models have a larger fuel tank for riding cross-country
- Many aftermarket HD accessories work and fit well. Beware of some aftermarket parts for Indian.
- Harley Cons:

PODCAST-In this episode we really try and break through the confusion on all these aftermarket motorcycle electronic fuel injection (EFI) boxes and gadgets that are for sale on the market out there. It can be awfully confusing and daunting to most, but it doesn’t necessarily have to be. We know that after you listen to this podcast episode you will feel much more comfortable with the subject and hopefully learn a lot. We are learning just like you and trying to take all the confusion out of mapping the fuel injection on your motorcycle with these aftermarket products. We have actually utilized some of these products and are going to try others.
We open this episode with a small snippet of a song from Johnny Cash called “The man comes around.” This song is awesome and stands the test of time. Make sure to purchase the song if you like it.
You will have a good idea after listening to this podcast episode whether or not you want to go down this motorcycle electronic fuel injection (EFI) mapping road. For some it is not necessary and for others it is an exciting journey that has endless possibilities for fine tuning your motorcycle! Do you want more low end or top end power for your motorcycle? Are the prices for these motorcycle EFI tuning gadgets worth it? Should I just get the standard Harley Davidson EFI download into my Electronic Control Module (ECM)? Should I trust all these aftermarket EFI tuners? Are some motorcycle EFI tuners better than others? What is a motorcycle auto tuner? Do all these aftermarket EFI tuners work with each other/cross platform? Can I take my EFI tuner with me when I sell my motorcycle? Do I need a laptop computer to use an EFI tuner? Do I need an smartphone or tablet to use an EFI tuner? We answer these and many other questions you may have about motorcycle electronic fuel injection (EFI) tuners and auto tuners. This topic is endless and we tried to break it down for you. We will likely have to do one or two follow up episodes on this topic, but this will get your started for certain.
There are so many motorcycle electronic motorcycle (EFI) tuners out there on the market. To break it down a bit for you we discuss Harley Davidson’s Screaming Eagle electronic fuel injection (EFI) race tuner, the Dyno Jet Power Commander V tuner, the Dyno Jet auto tuner kit and the Vance & Hines Fuel Pak 3 (FP3).
Law Abiding Biker has already released a video on installing the Dyno Jet Power Commander V, so CLICK HERE to check it out. We will be releasing a video in the future after we test out the Dyno Jet EFI motorcycle auto tuner, so keep checking back. We may also test out the Vance & Hines FuelPak 3 motorcycle fuel injection tuner for you and give you our true opinions. The FuelPak 3 claims to be an all in one solution and pairs with your iPhone, iPad, or Android device for real time tuning and information.
The Dyno Jet Power Commander V prices at around $379. If you want to add the additional Dyno Jet Auto Tuner you will spend around another $399. The Vance and Hines Fuel Pak 3 all in one solution prices at around $350, but it may not have all the functionality. Of course there is the Harley Davidson Screaming Eagle EFI tuner, but our opinion is to stay away and we explain why on this podcast episode. Simply put, you just need to listen to get the whole scoop.
Anyways, we will continue to test these motorcycle electronic fuel injection (EFI) tuners, boxes, and gadgets. We will follow up with videos, podcasts, and blogs. So you will want to keep checking back.

Podcast-This is part 1 of a two-part podcast series all about motorcycles and big rigs sharing the roads we all travel. There are inherent dangers when riding a motorcycle near or around a semi-truck, but you can minimize them. We have professional truck driver and Patron Member Russell Roberts of Gallatin, Tennessee in the Law Abiding Biker Studio to weigh in on the issue. We also have professional truck driver and Patron Member Steven Stratton of Stockton, California weighing in remotely via Skype. These guys get to see it from both sides, both as truck drivers and as motorcycle riders, so you really have to listen in to this conversation. They tell us exactly what to be careful of and how to properly ride around semi-trucks.

Semi-truck recap tires can blow out at any time and if that happens and a chunk hits you as a motorcyclist, you'll loose and that can be very serious or fatal. This can be a huge chunk of half of a tire or more! You've all seen the tire carcasses laying in the freeways. Back off or get past the semi-truck when riding. Plus, if you're hanging out on either side of the truck, you are likely in a large blind spot if the driver decides to move over. These blind spots are called the "No-Zones".
As a highly trained motorcycle rider, I can't tell you how many motorcyclists I see following trucks and cars too closely. The problem with trucks specifically, is that if you're following so close and a semi-truck easily straddles large debris in the road, by the time you see it coming out from the bottom of that truck it's likely too late. If you hit large debris on a motorcycle it can be serious if not fatal. Why put yourself in that situation? You're not saving any time, but only putting yourself and others in danger. Back off and then pass when it's safe. Time and distance are your friends, especially when riding a motorcycle.
Also, some semi-trucks have very long noses and a there is a large No-Zone directly in front. That is because the driver literally can't see over the nose and down. It is a fair distance out before the driver can actually see what's in front of him/her. A motorcycle will never be seen and it's clear what happens if you're run over by a semi-truck. Yah, you'll be the loser on that one. That is a huge reason to not suddenly move and change lanes right in front of a semi. Not only can't they slow or stop quickly, but they then can't see you when your up there.
If you appreciate the content we put out and want to make sure it keeps on coming your way then become a Patron too! There are benefits and there is no risk.
To help you understand the No-Zone better, a good rule of thumb is that if you can't see the driver in the side mirrors then they can't see you. You don't want to be in those blind spots on a motorcycle when a truck driver decides to move left or right. So, throttle up a bit and get past the truck or back off and give distance. Don't get caught in those spots at all costs.
These are just a few of the highlights of our in-depth discussion and you'll really need to listen in to gain more knowledge and understanding. It's worth your time as a motorcycle rider to get all the information as it could save your life. At the end of the day, pull your head out and use good common sense. You're not invincible.
Remember to respect professional truck drivers. They have a very difficult job to do with all the crazy drivers out there. They have a big responsibility because if they collide with a car or motorcycle it is usually very bad. They take this very seriously, so help them out and don't be part of the problem. Show a mutual respect out there on the roads and they'll do the same for you. careers depend on a good safe driving record. These drivers are always under extreme scrutiny from the federal, local, and state governments. They are heavily regulated and have a ton of rules to follow.
Truck driver's careers depend on a good safe driving record. These drivers are always under extreme scrutiny from federal, local, and state governments. They are a heavily regulated industry and have a ton of rules to follow and that is ever changing.
Wave when you pass a professional truck driver and know that pretty much everything in our country and all commerce is reliant on trucks moving products to their destination. If trucks stopped doing this even for a day, this country would be in crisis and life as we know it would cease. Plus, a ton of truck driver's are motorcycle riders too!
Roll on 18 wheelers! My hat goes off to all professional truck drivers out there.............
