The One with Cathy's Chemosabes
10/28/19 • 50 min
Cathy is a breast cancer survivor and so are about 3.8 million other women. In this episode, Cathy shares her personal perspective on going through the physical and spiritual battles of beating cancer. We also talk about a drunk driver crashing into her home, so there's that!
I am privileged to be one of Cathy's Chemosabes - what her friends and "family" called ourselves as we walked with her. Odds are, you know someone who has fought or is fighting against this disease. Please share this source of wisdom in navigating the illness for everyone involved.
We were so busy laughing at the end of the episode that I FORGOT TO ASK MY QUESTION THAT I ALWAYS ASK!!! Cathy was so kind to send me her answer to "what do you know about God that the rest of us may not know?"
Cathy said: "I honestly don’t know if there’s anything I know about God that others don’t. But the closest I probably come to unique wisdom is this: God will show up in a tangible, physical way at the darkest of times. He certainly sent friends to me at key times that filled needs, even needs I don’t know I had yet. But what I mean is that I, literally, felt His presence in a way I never had before. I think He blessed me with being better attuned to His presence. His presence is bigger than I have the words to describe, but the best I can say is it is overwhelming love and peace, despite circumstances. Knowing this has given me a new perspective on life. I used to be a worrier but now I know that so little in this world ultimately matters. I’m probably not expressing this very well but, like I said, I lack the words to adequately express myself. "

Lisa Powell is a wonderful friend and mentor to me! She may even laugh that I used the word mentor here, but her desire to serve the Lord through serving His people has meant a lot to me.
In this episode, Lisa shares all the defining moments of her life. Some are hard, but she recognizes God in every single one.
If you want to hear more about her son's illness, you can hear his wife Tiffani talk about it on episode 3 of the pod.
Here is the article about divorce that we talk about.
