Music Therapy for Parkinson's: Exercises and the future - Bonus episode
08/31/24 • 20 min
This is the second part of my interview with Karen Skipper of Tremble Clefs Orange County and a member of her choir, Darlene.
In this episode, Lori and I got to learn about some fun exercises that members of the choir do.
From trilling with a metronome to exercises that change pitch, this is a delightful short interview segment that you will enjoy.
I discovered that Tremble Clefs Orange County has virtual Zoom choir sessions (and virtual cocktail hours !) so that access is available from anywhere in the world.
Both Darlene and Karen take a look in this episode at what the future holds for people with Parkinson's and how Tremble Clefs helps people with Parkinson's directly from home, in keeping with the theme of this podcast - keep me home longer.
Here is a link to Tremble Clefs of Orange County: www.octrembleclefs.org.
For further information on the zoom sessions, you can contact Karen directly - [email protected].
It's been a tremendous pleasure talking with Karen and Darlene and discovering the meaningful impact that music therapy makes in the lives of people with Parkinson's.

Music Therapy: Real life story: A Parkinson's patient is empowered S1 E3
You're going to want to listen to this episode whether or not you have or know someone with Parkinson's. It's inspirational for anyone that wants to hear how someone with positivity overcomes challenges (like Parkinson's).
I got to talk with Darlene who describes what Music Therapy has done for her - and it's a lot more than you'd think. She explains how it changed the way that she has been able to manage her Parkinson's and how much it means to her.
"I could button my button and I could be understood. It was like a miracle", says Darlene in this episode - and she says it with style and verve.
Karen Skipper, of Tremble Clefs Orange County, explains how Music Therapy is different from Speech Therapy. She describes her passion for this method of helping people with Parkinson's and how Tremble Clefs does so much more than just helping people with the physical symptoms of Parkinson's.
I had to break this interview into two parts. After much editing, there was so much more that you need to hear - so I am dropping the second part at the same time.
