I might be childless by choice but many of my friends have kids and I'm a former sex ed teacher. So I decide after listening to my mom friend's stories and living through my stories from teaching sex ed I thought it would be fun to talk about the oddness of teach kids sex ed and where babies come from. My friend Stephanie Frank has two little girls and recently had a son. The girls were very inquisitive during her pregnancy that led to many funny moments. And my friend Melissa DiStefano has two preteen sons one of whom she slightly traumatized when the subject of sex came up. So thank god for cocktails to get us through reliving these super awkward moments in adulting.

It can be very healing and rewarding but there are times where it really hurts and is really hard. The holidays is often one of the times that being estranged from your family is the hardest. All the traditions are gone. You are now alone and totally on your own. You see all the happy family holiday photos all over social media. So how do you handle this?
I'm about to go in to my third holiday season estranged from family. Walking away from a toxic relationship with my mother meant I also had to walk away from my father and all his family too. Suddenly I was in the world totally alone. Which meant I need to figure out how to get through the landmines of the holiday season. Luckily I have an amazing therapist, great friends and I've learned to function during the holidays with my chosen family. But that doesn't mean it's not still hard. So thank goodness my childhood friend whose known me since middle school is also a therapist. Julie Mishoe joins me on this episode to discuss the tightrope of emotions and needs during the holiday season when you are estranged from your family.
