27. [Urdu] The Science of Coronavirus: Kainaati Chai with Professor Saad Omer
03/11/21 • 28 min
There are more viruses in the world than there are stars in the observable universe!!
We normally talk about astronomy here. But the world is currently facing an enormous challenge that can (and will) be solved through science and hard-work. What are viruses and can this understanding help scientists create vaccines against Covid-19 or Coronavirus? How do vaccines work and what are the different types of vaccines being created? Please join in this episode of Kainaati Chai where we chat with vaccine researcher, Dr. Saad B. Omer.
Dr. Omer is the inaugural Director of the Yale Institute for Global Health. He is also a Professor of Medicine (Infectious Diseases) at Yale School of Medicine and the Susan Dwight Bliss Professor of Epidemiology of Microbial Diseases at Yale School of Public Health. He has published widely in biomedical journals including the New England Journal of Medicine, JAMA, Lancet, Pediatrics, American Journal of Public Health, and Science. Moreover, he has written op-eds for publications such as the New York Times, Politico, and the Washington Post.

28. [Urdu] How do we measure distances to stars?
In astronomy, distance to an object is one of the most important things to know. But this is also one of the hardest. Please join astrophysicist Salman Hameed in exploring a variety of ways in which astronomers measure distances. From Parallax method to standard candles, such as Cepheid variables and supernovae, we look at foundations of these methods. In addition, we discuss some of the foundational units of distance measurement, from an Astronomical Unit and a light-year to parsecs and megaparsecs.
