Did you have cable in the 80's or 90's? If so, chances are, you've probably seen Beastmaster. Or maybe you caught the sequel on VHS? Or the third one which was made-for-TV, perhaps? Well, this week we discuss all things Beastmaster as we are joined by friend of the show, writer/director Jackson Stewart.

Up first, fresh off horror classic Phantasm, director Don Coscarelli tackles the sword and sorcery genre with Beastmaster from 1982. Starring Marc Singer as the titular Beastmaster, who falls in love with slave girl Tanya Roberts while trying to defeat an evil wizard played by Rip Torn

Then, Coscarelli's gone but Singer is back for Beastmaster 2: Through the Portal of Time. This time the Beastmaster magically gets warped to modern day Los Angeles. The fish-out-of-water story is well-worn, but is it any fun? Find out.

Finally, we close thing out with Beastmaster III: The Eye of Braxus. This final Beastmaster movie was made for TV and aired on May 24, 1996 on NBC.

All this plus Beastmaster memories, Thundarr The Barbarian, the boob scale, the "oh" drop, the hottest blu-rays of the week and so much more.

Junk Food Dinner - JFD645: Convoy, The Fog, Plaga Zombie: Zona Mutante
play

11/26/22 • -1 min

This week: the standard JFD lineup is back to review a trio of non-standard flicks selected by the standard-bearers of good taste (our Patreon donors)!
Up first! Audiences agree, Sam Peckinpah sure is good at smashing up mack trucks. It's the stick-it-to-the-man classic Convoy (from 1978, as all trucker movies are)! It's the classic tale of some tough-ass truckers hitting the road and outsmarting the coppers, all while passing by classic A&W Root Beer stands. Thanks Eamon for picking it!
Next up! We head on over to the California coastline with John Carpenter and The Fog, (from 1980). It's the one where a fog rolls up on a lighthouse, and there may or may not be pirate ghosts underneath it. Thanks Mickey for picking it!
Finally! Of course, it's 2001's Plaga Zombie: Zona Mutante, because we love neon orange colored zombies, especially Argentinian ones. Thanks Steve M for picking it!
All this plus the international toilet report, respecting the Japanese tourists of this podcast, soggy boatsmen, cb radio daze, nerd news and even more! Recorded live-to-tape on National Cranberry Relish Day, 2022!!

Junk Food Dinner - JFD616: Carnival of Souls, Wolfpack, Dance with Death
play

04/29/22 • -1 min

Another week, another episode of Junk Food Dinner. And this week the boys go down a spooky path of undead ghouls, fascist football players and stripper murdering serial killers. Up first, a young woman survives a car crash (or does she?) and takes a job as a church organist, but she begins having creepy visions and the feeling she is being stalked by a ghoul from beyond the grave in the black and white classic Carnival of Souls from 1962. Then, a young man moves to a new town and joins the high school football team only to find that his teammates have adopted some fascist techniques to deal with undesirable students and win games in Wolfpack from 1987. And finally, a reporter goes undercover as a stripper in order to get a scoop on the serial killer that has been praying on exotic dancers in Dance with Death from 1992.All this plus, Parker's TV gripes, Bill Perkins chat, streaming stats and figures, hot new blu-rays and so much more!LISTEN NOW:MP3 Direct DonloydAlso, if you like the show, please take a minute and subscribe and/or comment on us on iTunes, Stitcher, Blubrry or Podfeed.net. Holy smokes! It's that time of year again?! And we're ACTUALLY DOING IT THIS TIME?!!@ You got that right, pal. Buckle up, we're ghoul-summering this week!
This year's Ghoul Summer made possible by the DuPont Chemical Corporation and listeners like you. You and DuPont: there's a lot of good chemistry between us!
BUY A GHOUL SUMMER SHIRT HERE! Up first! It's 1992's Man Bites Dog, a black & white Belgian pseudo-documentary/comedy ... from the Criterion Collection? Did we get that right? Well, since it's comedically pseudo-documenting the horrific day-to-day exploits of a serial killer, it definitely counts! Laugh along with us until we recoil in disgust.

Next up! There's only ONE filmmaker that Parker Bowman is willing to pledge lifelong Ghoul Summer allegiance, but until now he's been officially banned from selecting one of that filmmaker's finest films. That filmmaker, of course, is Bill Zebub, and the film is Antfarm Dickhole (from 2011), and since the guy who banned Parker from picking it is now a ghost, all bets are off. Will we be charmed by these ants or these dickholes?
Finally! Of course, it's 2012's The Act of Killing, that documentary where the real-world perpertrators of the Indonesian genocide recreate their heinous crimes decades later for the delight of a pervese British man. Also on Criterion!!
All this plus a ghoul winter proposal, a lightning round of topics, the high price of 'Hired Stud, Will Travel', Parker's extracuricular ghouldom, multiple Toms, funky triple-x, repeat business, the sadness of Kevin, anteater effects, chemical mishaps, podcasting crossovers, a t-shirt for the ages, Peter Pan: Dick Magnet, here comes Parker with the giggles again, taro-flavored ultra-milk, all of the segments played exactly one time, ethical quandries, nerd news and even more! Recorded live-to-tape on National Can Opener Day, 2021!!

This week we kick off Black Sci-Fi-ebruary with a journey into Afro-futurism, with special guest host Orion Tippens from the Traveling Orion blog. Up first, a data thief takes us through the history of sci-fi in black culture in The Last Angel of History from 1996. Then, we experience pain and suffering in a dystopian future in Welcome II the Terrordome, also from 1996. And finally, a group of inner city British kids have to defend their apartment complex from aliens in Attack the Block from 2011. All this plus NFT giveaways, Odenkirk chat, anime gripes, Texas Chainsaw news, twizzy Alice in Wonderlands, pricey Ghostbusters box sets and so much more.LISTEN NOW:MP3 Direct DonloydAlso, if you like the show, please take a minute and subscribe and/or comment on us on iTunes, Stitcher, Blubrry or Podfeed.net. 09/23/23 • -1 min

JFS co-host Parker Bowman *claims* to be a lover of Kathy Ireland, but does his love extend all the way back to her first film role, or extend all the way down to the center of the earth? We'll find out this week, as we test the limits of what could reasonably be called a Jules Verne film with 1988's Cannon Films adaptation of Journey to the Center of the Earth, Alien From L.A.!
But first! We got two (count 'em) tasty segments up top! First, we run down the top ten movies of the summer and compare them to the predictions we made earlier in the year! Then, we chat about the most important day in baseball history: 1994's MTV Rock & Jock game!
So #DonloydNow and enjoy this bite-sized Junk Food Supper. We got all this plus no Kelly Slater surf ranch report (sadly), late nite antics from the west coast boys, the thrilling and exciting results of the summer movie wager, christopher nolan's irksome hubris, robo shenji, moby, long-butted mascots, rocking and jocking in '94 (til infinity), anna nicole smith in the background showing her boobs from time to time, blurps, bleeps, bloops and so much more!!

Junk Food Dinner - JFD516: American Pop, Princess Mononoke, Seoul Station
play

05/15/20 • 94 min

What do America, Japan and Korea have in common (outside of baseball, and coronavirus, both expicitly not discussed on this episode)? Your JFD hosts hope to find a little cross-cultural unity this week in the world of animated features, as we kick off our annual celebration of animation: Ani-May!

Up first! You remember Ralph Bakshi, dude who brought us weird stuff like HEAVY TRAFFIC and COONSKIN and WIZARDS? He's back at it again, with it his uniquely bizarre blend of post-hippie, underground-comix-y, animation, this time focused on the history of a nation and it's music, in 1981's American Pop! And: It's got more dishes than you could shake a washrag at.

Next up! Y'all ever seen that Hayao Miyazaki flick Princess Mononoke (1997)? You know, the Studio Ghibli thing that Disney/Miramax put in theaters over here. Your college girlfriend had the poster in her bedroom. No? That's weird. Well, we review it. It's got tentacle-boars.

Finally! It's a third film: Seoul Station (2016), a Korean zombie animated movie Parker picked because he likes TRAIN TO BUSAN from the same director. Will the zombies dance in unison to a sexy beat?

All this plus cartoon chats, Wink Martindale chats, background Keppi, an audio encounter with a maniac, some Sad Nerd News, a plea for more Roys, who are the real Quibis?, an issue with echoes, Kevin reveals a shocking hot take on a beloved era of our youth, some sneezing behind closed doors, our weekly news plus Blu-ray Picks and even more!

We're back and since we're all locked inside our boarded-up homes, we all have time for podcasts!

First, Donald Pleasence is a school teacher by day and a FREAKMAKER by night! He's a mad scientist who wants to mix human and plant DNA for the betterment of mankind. Will his students and collection of mutants be agreeable?

Next, Maria Ford is a sexy cop on a sexy case to avenge her sexy sister while protecting two sexy pop singers. It's Angel of Destruction!

Finally, Bill Pullman may or may not commit a murder that may or may not send him back in time ... or make him a different dude ... or something .... in David Lynch's "The Lost Highway."

All this plus Tom from Adelaide, a new junk mail genre, Ice Cube misinformation, nerd news, dvds, a cat murder and so much more!

In addition, your Junk Food Supper boys will be discussing Cabaret!

Sean and Parker discuss the 1972 movie directed by Bob Fosse and starring Liza Minnelli, Joel Gray and Michael York. Liza plays a swinging socialite who performs in a cool cabaret in Berlin shortly before the Nazis rise to power.

Before that, though, the boys discuss what they've been up to, what they've been watching and much more. This week's segment is a preview of what's coming to theaters in March. There's also junk mails from some of the hall of famers and Spookies Chat!
