Life can feel messy as we follow Jesus. We are all imperfect, and “works in progress,” after all. So can there be some type of balance between loving Jesus and making mistakes? What do we do when we fall short?
Pastor Kyle Dunn joins me on the Stepping Into a Joy Filled Life podcast to discuss how we can continue to take steps forward in our walk with the Lord instead of reeling in the failures that we do (and will) make.
Tune in as Pastor Kyle shares about a 4 part restoration process where we can come to Jesus after sin, while embracing both grace and truth. (So much wisdom in this!)
You’ll also be blessed when you hear Pastor Kyle’s thoughts about how to separate our identity from the roles we play, how we can live out our purpose and the best kind of PIZZA :) inside of this faith-filled episode!

122. How to Find More Hours in the Day When Motherhood is Overwhelming You
Joy at Home™ | Christian Mom, Homeschool, Homeschooling, Homemaking, Homestead, Christian Woman, Time Management, Faith, Bible, Devotional, Intentional Living, Self Help, Relationships, Anxiety, Inspiration, Charlotte Mason, Marriage, Parenting

“Chronic overwhelm.” “Hot mess.” “What is wrong with me?”
Have you ever used these terms to describe your life? You’re not alone, mama friend.
Lots of moms are associating with overwhelm and wishing they could just “find more hours in the day.”
Sound familiar?
Well, hang tight and get excited because today’s podcast features Cason Schulze, a girl mom of 3 and mentor who helps women create more time for themselves by implementing simple routines and strategies.
Join Cason and myself, as we discuss key insights like how to become aware of what you need and how to find more time to fulfill those needs (while ditching the overwhelm!). We’ll talk about how you can partner with the Holy Spirit to create change and implement some simple routines into your life (without over complicating it!).
Finally, we’ll share tips about how to create consistency in your life as you take your next steps forward!
If that sounds like a TON of goodness, just wait ’til you tune in. You’ll want to take notes today. (Promise!) Because honestly, this conversation holds SO MUCH more than just tips around how to find more hours in the day. It’s a condensed version of the MOST impactful things that you can do to improve your life when it comes to your role as a mother and as a Kingdom daughter.
In the words of Cason, it starts with this tip... “Be your own best friend.” I couldn’t agree more!

128. Abundant Fruit: Unpacking each "Fruit" of the Spirit that's in the Basket!
Joy at Home™ | Christian Mom, Homeschool, Homeschooling, Homemaking, Homestead, Christian Woman, Time Management, Faith, Bible, Devotional, Intentional Living, Self Help, Relationships, Anxiety, Inspiration, Charlotte Mason, Marriage, Parenting

The Fruit of the Spirit. One of my favorite topics (and pieces of Scripture!)
Maybe you’ve heard about it? Perhaps you strive to live it out daily. Or maybe you’re wondering “what does fruit have to do with the Spirit?”
The Fruit of the Spirit is the collection of characteristics and qualities that are produced as a result of us pursuing holiness as we strive to become more like Jesus.
In other words, as a Believer, the Lord loves to work in our lives and “prune us” (the sanctification process) so that we can bear more and more good fruit. As a result, we are able to love on others out of the abundance of “good fruit” in our heart.
Tune in to the podcast today, as Casey Wayne (brand new author!) and I take a look at each fruit in the proverbial basket (We’re talking love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. -Galatians 5:22-23) and discuss how they can all work together to make one delectable, beautiful fruit salad!
Bonus! Casey and I are also sharing our thoughts on how this concept is so relatable in motherhood. Don’t miss it!

Joy at Home™ | Christian Mom, Homeschool, Homeschooling, Homemaking, Homestead, Christian Woman, Time Management, Faith, Bible, Devotional, Intentional Living, Self Help, Relationships, Anxiety, Inspiration, Charlotte Mason, Marriage, Parenting

Guess what, sweet friend. No one has to go the journey alone.
Today on the podcast, Kelsey Bryant is sharing her own story about wading through the waters of postpartum depression. Tune in as she talks about how she felt overwhelmed by the very idea of motherhood and how she began to recognize that she was dealing with depression.
Kelsey is also offering insight about how the comparison game can hurt us, the importance of shifting our expectations and tips for how to STOP self-soothing with food.
“Afterwards, I had a full belly but I still had the same feelings. That’s because I wasn’t clinging to God or turning to Him to say “this is how I’m feeling.” What I really wanted was peace. I thought I could find it in food. But I didn’t. I had to turn to the Lord. He was calling me in.” -Kelsey Bryant
Today’s episode will help you identify what postpartum depression looks like, understand if you might actually be walking through it right now and gain wisdom around how to overcome it during your own motherhood journey.

89. Four Common Fears and Limiting Mindsets that Most Moms are Clinging To and How to Break FREE

89. Imagine being on a long hike through a beautiful forest. Around every corner lies something new and unexpected, something to discover. There are even new paths to navigate. It’s exhilarating.
... But there’s one problem. You have a backpack full of “stuff” and it’s totally weighing you down. Instead of enjoying the journey, you’re feeling pain. You’re constantly thinking about the heaviness you are carrying.
What are you going to do about the heavy backpack? How do you feel knowing it’s blocking you from the joy you should be experiencing on this journey?
Part of you wants to set it down, but there are things inside that are familiar to you. Things you’ve been carrying for a long time. You just couldn’t imagine letting them go.
What’s the next step, then? What’s the next right thing? How do you get rid of the heaviness? And what would it feel like to be able to breathe easier again? What would it be like to finish this hike taking in the beauty that surrounds you, instead of being distracted by the heavy backpack?
Sweet friend, the fears and limiting mindsets that you are carrying around in your mind are like that heavy backpack. They are weighing you down and holding you back. They are blocking your joy. Your fears and limiting mindsets are preventing you from all that God has for you.
There’s a better way. If you want to experience it, join me over on the podcast today. I’m sharing about 4 common fears and limiting mindsets that most moms are clinging to. More importantly, I’m sharing the secret for how to break FREE.
With Great Joy!

85. Hey Sister Friend!
The last time I checked, we were all living in a pretty unpredictable world. (The year 2020, anyone?)

Hey Sweet Friend! I used to be a stressed-out mama, battling overwhelm, anxiety and #momguilt. It wasn’t a great space to be in. Maybe you relate? There’s hope, sister! I learned to partner with God in designing my life and living it out with intention. #GameChanger
Now I run my time, instead of feeling pulled in every direction and I actually live my priorities (instead of just talking about them). Imagine being able to passionately pursue Jesus and your purpose. Picture having the freedom to chase after your kids and your dreams, every day. Sister, that’s my actual life! It’s within reach for you too!
If you’re looking for less stress and more JOY in your life, I’d love to help! Head over to KatieHedrickCoaching.com to see how we can work together.

73. Babies, Companies, Houses... the Life we’ve Created in our First 15 Years Together (A Peek into our Marriage)
Joy at Home™ | Christian Mom, Homeschool, Homeschooling, Homemaking, Homestead, Christian Woman, Time Management, Faith, Bible, Devotional, Intentional Living, Self Help, Relationships, Anxiety, Inspiration, Charlotte Mason, Marriage, Parenting
06/10/21 • 53 min
73. Oh my goodness. Where to start!?
Today marks 15 years of being married to the man I love... someone who is not perfect, but who is perfect for me. Chad is someone who doesn’t complete me (only Jesus can do that), but he completely compliments me. He brings out the best in me. He protects me, cherishes me, cheers me on, makes me laugh and he loves me so well.
Don’t get me wrong... we’ve had our ups and downs (wayyy downs actually). But I’ve got to say that the good moments have so totally outweighed the tough ones. The laughs have happened way more often than the tears. The realizations and the revelations and the lessons learned... they make up our story... the story of the life we’ve created in our first 15 years of marriage.
So naturally... I had to grab Chad (by his hunky biceps) and pull him into my recording studio (Ha! More on that inside this episode!) for a trip down memory lane to celebrate just how far we’ve come.
Enjoy today’s bonus podcast episode as we reminisce about the years gone by and more importantly, dream about the years that are yet to come...
With Great Joy!

64. I remember the day I first heard about the dark reality of human trafficking. I sat on the edge of my seat weeping, cold chills running up and down my body. How had I never known about this evil?
As a midwestern girl born and raised in the middle of nowhere, I found the concept of trafficking both shocking and foreign. Surely, SURELY this only happened in foreign countries, right? WRONG. I was horrified to learn that it’s also happening in the United States AND the midwest, the good ol’ middle of nowhere. WHAT?!
Human trafficking leaves no one out. Women, Men, Children, Adults... all are being affected and it’s something that we have to become educated about and fight against.
We pray “God, break our heart for what breaks yours. Help us come together to fight against this darkness, this evil and help us to set captives free in Your name!”
Tune in to the podcast today, as Stephanie Olson, CEO of The Set Me Free Project shares facts about trafficking, how we can help fight against it and ways that we can keep our own kids safe!!
Be sure to share today’s episode to help spread awareness and bring light to a dark reality. It’s IMPORTANT!
With Great Joy,
Katie
P.S. If you think you spot trafficking, call 888-373-7888 to report the incident.

Ohhhhhh... have I got a treat for you!
Have you ever wanted to pick the brain of a homeschool dad and husband? (Maybe even your husband!) Like really get into his mind and see what he’s thinking???
Could be a little scary right?! Like you WANT to peek inside, but you’re bracing yourself for what you might find...
Let me introduce you to Todd Wilson. He’s a husband, homeschool dad and granddad. Todd is also an author and speaker, the founder of Familyman Ministries, and the voice behind The Smiling Homeschooler podcast.
I met Todd when he spoke at a homeschool convention. (As the keynote speaker, I might add! Don’t let his humbleness fool you. This guy knows his stuff!) He’s SO down to earth, genuine and FUNNY.
Todd was gracious enough to join me on the podcast to tell the unfiltered truth about what it’s like being the husband of a homeschooling mom. Trust me when I say... he holds nothing back and he answers every question I throw his way with authenticity and Christ-like love.
We’re digging into the hard stuff, like...
- The #1 thing that seems to drive a wedge in marriages
- What drives your husband crazy (in a not-so-good-way)
- What drives your husband crazy (in a good way!)
- How you can be more intentional with your marriage
- What your husband REALLY needs from you
It’s a pretty juicy and tell-all episode for all the homeschooling moms and wives out there! Don’t miss it!
