Jew Talkin' To Me?

Jew Talkin' To Me?

Jew Talkin

An unashamedly Jewish comedy chat show where all are welcome!

Jew Talkin' To Me? is hosted by award winning comedians, Rachel Creeger and Philip Simon, and produced by Russell Balkind. Each show features two guests from the entertainment industry sharing their views on a variety of topics connected to modern Jewish life in a secular world, as well as their memories of growing up Jewish.

Both Philip and Rachel are well known as Jewish comedians on both the mainstream and community circuit and our guest list includes stand-up comedians, presenters, broadcasters, journalists and writers who are Jewish, have some Jewish heritage, or a Jewish connection.

Philip and Rachel have been collaborating for a few years, but who are we as individuals?

Philip Simon

WINNER of the Jewish Comedian of the Year 2015

WINNER of the Lastminute Comedy Comedian of the Year 2015

As a stand up Philip gigs throughout the UK, as well having performed as far flung places as America, Scandinavia, Europe, The Middle East and New Zealand. He is MC and curator of the Edinburgh Fringe's cult hit show Jew-O-Rama where Jewish and Jew”ish” acts perform to a mainly non-Jewish audience in packed out rooms each year. He is also resident compere at Borehamwood Comedy Club, works on panels shows including Mock the Week and Taskmaster and has been featured on BBC R2 and BBC 3CR, as well as acting in TV sitcoms such as My Family.

Rachel Creeger

WINNER Most Audience Recommended Show Camden Fringe 2012

WINNER Best Comedy Award Greater Manchester Fringe 2017

Rachel is the only practising orthodox Jewish woman on the UK comedy circuit and has attracted a big following outside of her community who are interested in a unique, accessible voice from an unlikely source. Her debut solo show ‘It’s No Job For A Nice Jewish Girl’ had a sell-out Edinburgh run in 2017, followed by tours of the UK and Israel. She's now meant to be touring her 5* show, ‘Hinayni! but, you know, the 'rona’. Rachel is the host of Central London's spectacular annual event Chanukah in the Square and resident MC of comedy club Upstairs at the Adam & Eve. As heard on BBC Radio London (regular guest) BBC R2, BBC Ouch and BBC 3CR. She is also an award winning director and critically acclaimed playwright.

When Mark was six, his mother took him in to Manhattan every weekend for singing and ballet lessons. When he returned to school each Monday and showed his fellow Bronx classmates what he had learned, the class would gather around and beat him up. Mark’s mother smartened up and enrolled him in karate lessons, but those came to a halt when the karate teacher beat him up. When Mark was twelve, his parents took him to a nightclub. There, live on stage was Rodney Dangerfield doing his act. At that moment, he knew the path he had to follow. Mark has headlined in all the major casinos and clubs across the country and has appeared many times on both The Tonight Show with Jay Leno and Late Night with David Letterman. He has had both HBO and Showtime specials and has been the featured act at the Montreal Comedy Festival. He has written for and guest-starred on Mad About You, as well as appearing on Empty Nest and serving as a writer on The Roseanne Show. He joins us in the middle of touring with Seinfeld.

Mara is an American actress and writer, most noted for her roles in Hollywood blockbusters Mrs. Doubtfire, Miracle on 34th Street and Matilda. After appearing in a series of guest roles in numerous TV series, Mara Wilson retired from acting to pursue a writing career. Her play ‘Sheeple’ was produced in 2013 for the New York International Fringe Festival. Throughout her career, she has been nominated for, and won, several awards, including the Young Star Award for her performance in the film ‘Matilda’ and the Showest Award in 1995 for Young Star of the Year. Lately Mara has mainly enjoyed a career in voiceovers, including playing a recurring voice role in the animated series ‘BoJack Horseman’ and appearing in various web series.

She is also the author of two books:

‘Where Am I Now?: True Stories of Girlhood and Accidental Fame’

A former child actor, Mara has always felt a little young and out of place: as the only kid on a film set full of adults, the first daughter in a house full of boys, a Valley girl in New York and a neurotic in California, and a grown-up the world still remembers as a little girl. Tackling everything from what she learned about sex on the set of Melrose Place, to discovering in adolescence that she was no longer “cute” enough for Hollywood, these essays chart her journey from accidental fame to relative (but happy) obscurity.

Good Girls Don’t

A coming-of- age memoir that bravely examines both the friendships Wilson formed as a child actor in Hollywood and the complex family relationships that shaped her.

Several years ago, SK Shlomo hit a rough patch.

10 years deep into a colourful career, they were an acclaimed beatboxer, a celebrated theatre performer and a well-respected collaborator with the likes of Björk, Gorillaz, Imogen Heap and Rudimental. They had become the first ever World Looping Champion, brought Ed Sheeran onstage as their guest at Glastonbury, been the first non-classical Artist in Residence at London’s Southbank Centre, and even been the subject of a feature film. But something had shifted. In the midst of a deep depression, they stopped performing. Shlomo spent almost two years off the road, recovering what had felt lost.

After a powerful comeback tour, a series of personal revelations changed the way that Shlomo viewed themselves and their work. Shlomo touches on themes they have never previously shared in public, queerness, gender, being foreign, disability and mental health and, ultimately, the healing power of rave.
