When you peer into the mirror, do you like what you see? What about when you just get out of the shower? That probably depends a great deal on your age... Here in Episode 007 of Jay of the Dead’s New Horror Movies, we talk about the increasing appearance of Naked Old People in Horror movies! Sure, we got that dilapidated “dish” in Room 237 in “The Shining” (1980). But the appearance of saggy and baggy bods has surely ticked up in frequency over the past decade with films like, “REC 2” (2009), “The Taking of Deborah Logan” (2014), “The Visit” (2015), “The Witch” (2015), “Hereditary” (2018), “Midsommar” (2019), “It: Chapter Two” (2019), “The Dark and the Wicked” (2020),”Amulet” (2020), and of course, that brings us to our big Feature Review of Ti West’s “X” (2022)!

In addition to the new Ti West flick, in Episode 007 your favorite Horror hosts also bring you reviews of The Exorcism of God (2022), Umma (2022), Off Season (2022), You Are Not My Mother (2022), and Bhoothakaalam (2022). And as part of our usual, genre-defining PSAs, we even briefly discuss a couple a couple of non-Horror movies, namely, Deep Water (2022), Beneath the Surface (2022). Also in Episode 007, Jay of the Dead reveals the unforgettable true story of how Dr. Shock earned the nickname, “Back-Door Becker.” We also read an email from Candela, our Norwegian high-school student friend, who responds to our hosts’ answers (from Episode 006) to her question about American Horror movies influenced by the Cold War. Some of the boys were “deep in their cups,” as they say, while recording this episode, so our coherence may waiver somewhat from segment to segment.

And of course, you will get seven, Horror-themed Specialty Segments from each host, including Jay of the Dead’s It Could Happen to You Horror, Dr. Shock’s Macabre Film History, Gillman Joel’s Horror Lagoon, Mister Watson’s Horror Hierarchy, The Dead Zone with Dr. Walking Dead, GregaMortis’s Monsters on the Mantle, and Horror in Black and White by Mackula! Join us! (P.S. Sorry this episode was so damn late in releasing.)

Welcome to the epic fifth episode of Jay of the Dead’s New Horror Movies! Apologies for the delay in release, but this baby is about 5 hours and 24 minutes of pure Horror podcasting power, so it took a little extra time. Here in Episode 005, Jay of the Dead is joined by his all-star Dream Team that (so far) includes Dave “Dr. Shock” Becker, The Gillman Joel Robertson, Mister Watson, Dr. Walking Dead Kyle Bishop and GregaMortis! Your six late-night Horror hosts bring you reviews of new Horror movie releases from 2022, six Horror-themed Specialty Segments, and a couple of group Feature Reviews, such as Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2022) and Brian De Palma’s The Fury (1978)! As for our other 2022 Horror releases, we’ve got reviews of The Cursed (2022), No Exit (2022), Studio 666 (2022), The Ledge (2022) and Hellbender (2022). We’ve also got some entertaining reviews of some older films that still might be new to you, and those are 20 Million Miles to Earth (1957), The Ring (2002), Deathdream (1974), Inside (2007), and the Killer Baboon movie, Shakma (1990).

And just to tease a couple of our Specialty Segments, we’ve got Mister Watson’s Top 5 Horror Movie Surprise Endings, as well as Dr. Shock’s segment about The Final Resting Places of Celebrities (and how they all weren’t quite as final as their families had hoped). Of course, we have some prize winner announcements and some new contests! We also get a great voicemail from Jay’s boy, “Spawn of the Dead.” #ProudPapa And your favorite, late-night Horror hosts discuss topics like Third-Act Horror Movies, Japanese water ghosts, the magnificent artistry of Master Monster Maker Ray Harryhausen, how Netflix is getting all of us “Shakma-levels-of-pissed-off” for not releasing their Horror films (like TCM) on physical media, and of course, saggy boobs. (We have to include something to keep Dr. Shock from getting bored.) This episode is dedicated to “The Grey Man” Greg Bensch.

What’s your favorite Horror movie? Is it the one where the typically comedic actor plays a dead serious role of a father whose wife and children are stuck with him in another country where violence and anarchy have erupted, threatening their lives for certain death if they find no escape? Or is your favorite scary movie the one where the large, quiet, seemingly unstoppable monster from the future comes and hunts down and exterminate a young woman, killing several others in his path one by one, until the young lady ends up being the final girl to face him? Or is your new favorite scary movie the “requel” called Scream (2022)? If so, you’re in luck because in Jay of the Dead’s New Horror Movies, Episode 002, Jay and his suspicious, usual suspect cohorts Dave “Dr. Shock” Becker, The Gillman Joel Robertson and Mister Watson do their best to take a stab at dancing around a spoiler-free review of Scream (2022), but alas, to no avail. So, make sure you see the new movie before you listen to our review!

And of course, also in Episode 002 we have Dr. Walking Dead Kyle Bishop’s segment, The Dead Zone, where he discusses the grave importance and viral influence of his all-time favorite zombie film, George Romero’s Dawn of the Dead (1978)”. Of course, the other four hosts bring you their individual Specialty Segments, which include Mister Watson’s Horror Hierarchy, Gillman Joel’s Horror Lagoon, Dr. Shock’s Macabre Film History and Jay of the Dead’s It Could Happen to You Horror segments! This episode also features a couple of other new-year Horror movie releases as we review The Kindred (2022), Sleep (2022) and See for Me (2022). (The last one is barely a Horror film, but Jay of the Dead will defend its inclusion here.) We also bring you reviews of some recent, 2021 Horror movies, such as The Night House (2021), Detention (2021), Jakob’s Wife (2021) and a Horror short film with the benign- and innocuous-sounding title, Quiet Room Bears (2021)!

And for this episode’s edition of A ’70s, ’80s or ’90s HORROR MOVIE THAT MIGHT BE NEW FOR YOU from John Kenneth Muir’s “Horror Films of the 1980s Decade” book, your hosts review William Lustig’s infamous Maniac (1980). We hope you’ll join us, and be sure to subscribe to Jay of the Dead’s new Horror movie podcast on:

In 2015, Jay of the Dead produced an “on the road” podcast episode called “The I-80 Tapes.” The primary focus of those live recordings was Jay traveling westward across the country, along Interstate 80, and stopping at gas stations and truck stops to record his DVD findings at the $5 bargain movie bins! But for that episode, Jay had planned another facet to those recordings, but he “chickened out” because he didn’t feel he could pull it off well enough... Seven years later, Jay of the Dead returns in Episode 008 of Jay of the Dead’s New Horror Movies where he endeavors to deliver a heavily, “execution-dependent” podcast episode that we hope will be entertaining and unforgettable!

Not to worry, though... Even if all that ambition fails, Episode 008 still brings you your seven favorite Horror hosts — Dr. Shock, Gillman Joel, Mister Watson, Dr. Walking Dead, GregaMortis, Count Mackula, and of course, Jay of the Dead. During this show, we’ll bring you new Horror movie reviews of Morbius (2022), The Nameless Days (2022), The Seed (2022), You Won’t Be Alone (2022), and a Thriller called Barbarians (2022). Join our cohosts for some entertaining reviews, and tag along with Jay and his “Necro-MOM-icon” as they travel to Las Vegas and hunt for $5 movie bargain bins!
