Streamlining The Cyber Talent Pipeline By Educating Underprivileged High School Graduates For Free | A Conversation With Corey Mize And Cecilia Marinier
Why do we continue to apply old filters and place unnecessary barriers in our hiring processes, leaving out diverse and underprivileged candidates that don't fit the traditional cybersecurity professional profile? Good question.
Here’s another one: Do you remember the last time you took a chance on someone, and it paid off in a big way? Or maybe you donot because your HR was never allowed to make that bet.
Maybe it's time to forego the 4-year college graduates for every single position you are hiring for, and, instead, consider a passionate and driven high school graduate that has been allowed to learn thanks to scholarships and grants secured by a non-profit organization?
Oh wait, must pause to reinforce this point that we need to give these opportunities to those who cannot afford to go to college or pay for a professional qualification program. There are skills here, held by individuals ready to join the ranks.
How can we improve the cybersecurity industry if we keep doing the same thing over and over again? Try to get different results by doing that and let us know how that is going for you. One thing is for sure; we are not filling the famous—or infamous—cybersecurity workforce and skills gap by doing that.
For today’s episode, we wrap up the year with a story about equality, sincerity and opportunity—a story where it not only makes sense to take a chance, but it also feels good. Join us and our guest, Corey Mize, Executive Director at the Base Camp Coding Academy.
About Base Camp Coding Academy
