Kurt Gunn and Brad Bordini are brothers, both in music and life. They have a partnership that goes back thirty-plus years and when they're playing music together, you might swear they're telepathic. They draw influence from each other and challenge each other to grow as musicians, songwriters, and people. With the release of Brad's new album, The Voices In My Head, on December 8, they planned out a very special gig to celebrate the event including the return of Kurt Gunn & the Poor Town Proper. Get the scoop on the new album, the big gig, and hear the tales of The Brothers Gunn.

Janet Planet is a name synonymous not only with the northeast Wisconsin music scene, but with vocal jazz and voice instruction. Her career has spanned forty-plus years and she shows no sign of slowing down at all. She's headlined concerts all over the world and her catalog of recorded work has earned praise from critics and fans alike. One of her biggest fans was comedian, composer, and jazz musician Steve Allen (yes, that Steve Allen!) who once wrote to her, "There are so many dumb and inarticulate singers in the business today, it’s a pleasure to hear someone who knows what singing is all about." Janet is an incredible vocalist who encourages others to use their voice through her succesful Rethink Sing vocal technique program. No matter if you're a jazzer or simply enjoy smart, outstanding vocal work, we think you'll enjoy this discussion with Janet Planet.

Text us about this show.

Robin Peters of Rockin' Robin Productions is a dynamo. She not only manages and promotes a number of San Diego and southern California bands and artists, but she knows how to give back to the community as well. On today's show, we discuss not only her roles as manager and promoter, but a special project she sits on the board of to resurrect a piece of San Diego's music history, the Starlight Bowl Amphitheater. The Starlight Bowl once boasted having the likes of Stevie Ray Vaughan, Ella Fitzgerald, Bob Dylan, Santana, The Rolling Stones, and so many other top acts grace its stage. Robin tells us about the effort to not only restore it to its former glory, but expand on it to bring the community together.

Text us about this show.

Timm Buechler is one talented guy. He primarily plays bass, something he taught himself out of necessity. However, he also writes, sings, is a graphic artist, and he has a thing for 8-track tapes. He has toured with the likes of Paul Collins and Peter Case, played on sessions for Dwight Twilley, and even met Susanna Hoffs (The Bangles) once. After playing bass in different parts of the world, on national tours, and with several local bands, the cool thing you find about Timm is he's still very much in touch with his roots. Today he shares with us his stories. And his 8-tracks.

Ric Spatula Armstrong has a way of turning losses into gains. He lost his dad, a drummer, when he was five-years-old, yet he turned that into a career in drumming himself and an opportunity to honor his sister. He lost a job due to an economic downturn, yet he turned it into and opportunity to chase a dream in music. He drums for bands like More Then Merry, The Kurt Gunn Band, and Isiah and the New People plus he has a solo gig under the name of Armstrong St. Never count Ric out because if you do, he'll turn it into a wonderful opportunity.

Eliott Janz had one heck of a mentor. That's because his mentor was the legendary Dick Dale. Dick didn't just teach Eliott his picking method and his music, he taught Eliott about life. Due to a chance meeting between Dick and Eliott's dad, Trevor, at an aviation show in the early 90s, Eliott got to know and befriend one of the greatest guitarists in history. Now Eliott honors both men with his new single, "Flight," and six-plus years of living clean.

Text us about this show.

Timothy Donovan cut his musical teeth in Boston where he grew up. He heard the likes of Boston bands like The J. Geils Band, Aerosmith, The Cars, and, of course, Boston, but the local scene also had a band called Orpheus who were regional favorites. After his move to northern New Hampshire, he took time off from music but when he came back to it, he began to forge vital relationships with his co-writers Karen Girard and Willie Cintron. He opened Riverside Recording Studios in Berlin, NH and has now formed the TimothyPaul Band. Tim has taken his 50-plus years of making music and turned it into a career of creating soulful music from the heart. Hear about it here.
