Robin Peters of Rockin' Robin Productions is a dynamo. She not only manages and promotes a number of San Diego and southern California bands and artists, but she knows how to give back to the community as well. On today's show, we discuss not only her roles as manager and promoter, but a special project she sits on the board of to resurrect a piece of San Diego's music history, the Starlight Bowl Amphitheater. The Starlight Bowl once boasted having the likes of Stevie Ray Vaughan, Ella Fitzgerald, Bob Dylan, Santana, The Rolling Stones, and so many other top acts grace its stage. Robin tells us about the effort to not only restore it to its former glory, but expand on it to bring the community together.

TIMM BUECHLER: Small town boy on playing bass for respected power pop names on big stages
INTO THE MUSIC
09/05/23 • 37 min
Timm Buechler is one talented guy. He primarily plays bass, something he taught himself out of necessity. However, he also writes, sings, is a graphic artist, and he has a thing for 8-track tapes. He has toured with the likes of Paul Collins and Peter Case, played on sessions for Dwight Twilley, and even met Susanna Hoffs (The Bangles) once. After playing bass in different parts of the world, on national tours, and with several local bands, the cool thing you find about Timm is he's still very much in touch with his roots. Today he shares with us his stories. And his 8-tracks.

Michael Grabner is an artist whose songs you will want to simply reach out and take hold of. For a young man he's done a lot of living and, with that, a lot of learning along the way. Those life experiences are the emotion that fuel the songs on his albums Restart and A Story I Can't Tell as well as his new single, "Deja Vu." Some of Michael's influences go back several decades to early Bob Dylan albums, Neil Young, and Townes Van Zandt and more recently with Elliot Smith. He also has a message of hope because he's a big believer in second chances that lead to a better and fulfilling life.

JEFF HINNENDAEL of HINNENDAEL STUDIOS: Compassion is what drives this musician/producer
INTO THE MUSIC
03/26/24 • 44 min
When someone works with producer Jeff Hinnendael, he wants them to feel at home in his studio. He and his wife, Maria, take the stress element of being in the studio environment out of the equation with a comfortable and inviting space to record and create. Hinnendael Studios is not your typical home studio as is evidenced by the great work being produced there. Jeff and Maria do what it takes to bring out the best in artists including lending their own talents as professional musicians to many of the projects that come through the studio. Jeff is a very professional, realistic, competent, and compassionate producer whose easy going demeanor makes creating at Hinnendael Studios a joy.

Eliott Janz had one heck of a mentor. That's because his mentor was the legendary Dick Dale. Dick didn't just teach Eliott his picking method and his music, he taught Eliott about life. Due to a chance meeting between Dick and Eliott's dad, Trevor, at an aviation show in the early 90s, Eliott got to know and befriend one of the greatest guitarists in history. Now Eliott honors both men with his new single, "Flight," and six-plus years of living clean.

Two shows that I highly recommend are Boppin' With Beth featuring host BETH RILEY and Catching a Wave with Jammin' JAMES RILEY. Beth and James are two peas in a pod when it comes to their marriage, radio shows, podcast, and promotions arm of TEAM RILEY RADIO, Old Fashioned Radio Publicity. On this show they talk about how they're able to not only pack a lot of great content into their hour long weekly shows, but into all the work they put in on all they have going on. This is a fun one, so give it a listen and then tune into their shows (links below!). Guaranteed to put a smile on your face and get your toes tappin'!

Kyle Megna & The Monsoons is one of the most unique and popular bands in northeast Wisconsin and their lineup is formidable. Their albums and live shows are filled with music pulling from soul, jazz, latin, rock, blues, folk... you name it. Kyle is the leader of the band and is the group's primary songwriter, but he's fostered a spirit of camaraderie among his bandmates that goes deep. Along with performing with The Monsoons, Kyle also performs solo and in a duet act with Dave LeBlanc. Along with his music, Kyle and his wife own and operate 313 Dodge, a great place for a beverage, a bite to eat, and music (jazz on Thursdays and varied acts through the summer thanks to the city of Kaukauna!). Listen here for a sampling of Kyle Megna & The Monsoons' finest.
