Inspiring Stories of Recovery – Episode 5: Krista’s Story – From Jail to Redemption: A Journey of Sobriety and Loss
Krista's story is one of survival, resilience, and faith. She grew up in a loving family, but addiction took hold in her teenage years, leading her down a path of arrests, violence, and self-destruction. It wasn’t until she woke up in jail, covered in blood, facing 20 years in prison, that she realized she had hit rock bottom.
With nowhere else to turn, she found hope in a fellow inmate who introduced her to recovery. From there, Krista embarked on a long, painful, and ultimately redemptive journey. But sobriety didn’t come without its challenges—especially when she faced the devastating loss of the man she loved. Two years into her recovery, her fiancé, Brian, tragically passed away after a work accident. Holding his hand in the hospital, she had to find the strength to keep going without turning back to alcohol.
Now, 10 years sober, Krista shares how she navigated grief, relationships, and relapse in her loved ones, including her husband’s own battles with addiction. She talks about the power of faith-based recovery, her involvement in Celebrate Recovery and Recovery Alive, and how she’s using social media to connect with thousands who are still struggling.
Krista’s journey is proof that no matter how far you’ve fallen, there’s always a way back. If you or someone you love is battling addiction, this episode is for you.

In this powerful episode of Inspiring Stories of Recovery, host David Sichel sits down with Jimmy, the Alumni Coordinator at Discovery Institute, to share his journey of addiction, struggle, and ultimate redemption.
Jimmy opens up about his childhood, growing up surrounded by addiction, and how early exposure to drugs and alcohol shaped his life. Through the support of Discovery Institute and the recovery community, he embraced change, stayed the course, and rebuilt his life. Now, as an advocate for those in recovery, Jimmy dedicates himself to helping others find their own path to sobriety.
