Our guest for this episode is a long-time investor in emerging and frontier markets. He has identified some exciting, “untapped” opportunities for investment, and today, he’s going to share his insights with us.
Jim Chu is the founder and CEO of Untapped, a global tech-for-good company that aims to bridge the investment gap in frontier markets and enable entrepreneurs to scale to their full potential.
Jim has recognized a $5.2 trillion investment gap in SMEs in developing countries, as well as a $3.9 trillion chasm in the Global South. It’s something he likes to call a “VC blindspot,” because it cannot be accessed by traditional models of investing.
Untapped’s most recent efforts are focused on Africa, a booming market with a very high population growth rate, and amazing FinTech opportunities. By creating better, more suitable financing instruments, they wish to provide alternative funding opportunities for emerging market entrepreneurs.
In this episode, Jim will share his experiences of investing in the African market. We’ll also discuss the differences between investing in Africa and the US, the limitations of institutional investing, and why passion and profit aren’t mutually exclusive.
Key points discussed

Inner Sphere
06/09/21 • 28 min
Can blockchain help us reinvent the way we build communities? Today, we welcome Adi Sideman, co-founder and CEO of Props Project, and he’s determined to prove that it can.
For over 20 years, Adi has successfully built communities and large consumer products at scale. He’s co-founded several companies, including TargetSpot, Ksolo Karaoke, and Oddcast, and he’s well known for his work at YouNow, the live streaming service he helped grow to over 120 million user sessions per month.
Bringing people together has proven to be a deeply gratifying experience. Still, Adi was inspired to look beyond that and search for new ways in which communities could provide value to their members. These intentions inspired Props, a loyalty token that allows people all over the world to earn benefits, money, and a stake in the network they help grow.
Four years ago, Props Project ran a funding campaign on Republic, reaching their maximum goal of $1,070,000 in just several hours. Since then, they’ve raised an additional $21 million in funding, expanded their brand globally, and became a valued blockchain community member.
In this episode, Adi joins us to talk about his experiences with Props and share some of the most important lessons he’s learned along the way. We’ll also discuss various topics surrounding blockchain technology innovations and their implications for the future of community building.

Can a burger be both healthy and sustainable? In this episode of Profit to the People, founder Courtney Boyd Myers joins us to talk about how she maxed out her million-dollar campaign through Republic and launched the world's first kelp burger with AKUA, a brand of sustainable sea greens-based foods.
Courtney has been named one of Business Insider's 30 Most Important Women Under 30 In Tech and one of Business Insider's 100 Most Influential Tech Women on Twitter.
In her quest to build a consumer market for seagreens, Courtney learned all about the environmental and economic benefits of growing kelp, a species of edible seaweed full of vitamins and minerals.
