Indianapolis Football Podcast - Colts Cast: Rookie UDFA year in review with Colts' safety George Odum

Colts Cast: Rookie UDFA year in review with Colts' safety George Odum

03/08/19 • 45 min

Indianapolis Football Podcast
The 2018 season was filled with rookie contribution for the Indianapolis Colts. Most will attribute that to the draft picks, but there were plenty of UDFA assistance to a surprisingly successful year for the Colts as well. Today, Zach Hicks joins Matt Danely as they talk to Colts' safety, and UDFA George Odum. Odum was part of an everchanging roster, and safety position for the Colts in 2018. We saw T.J. Green shown the door, and Matthias Farley lose out on most of the season due to injury. Odum became a vital part of a safety corps that also gained influential veteran Mike Mitchell, and was a key position in the success of a very young defense. Odum was an excellent special teams contributor, and was third at the position in total tackles despite only starting two games for the Colts. Odum looks to possibly be a long-term piece in a defense going through a massive youth movement in Chris Ballard's third full season as GM. Making his second season that much more interesting is the Colts' situation at safety. Most of the 2018 safety group are free agents, and the team could very well be in the hunt for an unquestioned starter opposite Malik Hooker. Odum isn't worried about all of that though. Odum is quite confident in his abilities, his willingness to work harder than anyone else, and the fact that he cherishes every opportunity he gets on the field. Odum was a fun interview, and was candid about his outlook to being in the NFL and doesn't rely on a chip on his shoulder from being an UDFA. He feels that he belongs in the NFL, and has everything he needs to remain a success in the league with his diverse skillset. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices

Colts Cast: Pat McAfee talks "Naturdays," his star rising, and the Colts approach to the 2019 season

Today we take a quick break from breaking down 2019 NFL Draft options, the Indianapolis Colts' roster review and the NFL Combine to talk with one of the greatest Colts to ever don the horseshoe. Former Colts' punter Pat McAfee joins Matt Danely on the Colts Cast for a quick conversation on multiple fronts. Pat discusses his latest gig in being named the spokesman for Natural Light's "Naturdays" where every moment can become a story, how his name has continued to be attached to the recent opening for Monday Night Football, his rise with the WWE, the Colts' approach to 2019, and much more. Pat has quickly become a household name beyond the Colts' fanbase as he notoriously retired from the NFL to pursue his love for the entertainment industry. In just a short run post-NFL, Pat has earned a contract with the WWE, commentated a college and NFL football game, and has become one of the most recognized podcast hosts in the game. Additionally, Pat's star has only brightened as his opportunities have increased and is getting a real push by the Colts, and other national media to receive additional media gigs. We'd like to thank Pat for his time, and we hope you enjoy today's show. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices

The Stable: NFL Combine Review, Free Agency Wishlist, and Heather Lloyd

First up on The Stable I speak with Colts.com writer Heather Lloyd, you can find most of her stuff on ‘The Colts Roundup’, she can also be found on twitter @TheBlueMare. Heather takes a deep dive into a season review, she tells me who really stepped up to lead the Colts behind the scenes. She shares some stories about locker room personalities and gives us an insight into the player’s fashion. A great interview as always I encourage you not to miss out. The NFL Scouting Combine just wrapped up this week here in Indianapolis. While some players stood out others seemed to crash and burn and hurt their overall draft stock. The best thing to do after the Combine is go back and watch more tape on players you may not have looked carefully enough at. I took a second look at some of the players who impressed me at this years combine like A.J. Brown, Miles Boykin, Montez Sweat and Amani Oruwariye. I put together my list based on who the Colts should be targeting in this years draft. Of course there were also some disappointments that I had high on my draft board. Deandre Baker and Riley Ridley are good examples. Free Agency is right around the bend. There are a lot of Colts players that have yet to be re-signed and some future Colts waiting to be signed. With names like Dontrell Inman, Matthias Farely, Landon Collins, and Trey Flowers there are a lot of interesting choices that Ballard may make in Free Agency. Listen in for my free agency wish list!
