Indianapolis Football Podcast - Colts Cast: Rookie UDFA year in review with Colts' safety George Odum
play

03/08/19 • 45 min

The 2018 season was filled with rookie contribution for the Indianapolis Colts. Most will attribute that to the draft picks, but there were plenty of UDFA assistance to a surprisingly successful year for the Colts as well. Today, Zach Hicks joins Matt Danely as they talk to Colts' safety, and UDFA George Odum. Odum was part of an everchanging roster, and safety position for the Colts in 2018. We saw T.J. Green shown the door, and Matthias Farley lose out on most of the season due to injury. Odum became a vital part of a safety corps that also gained influential veteran Mike Mitchell, and was a key position in the success of a very young defense. Odum was an excellent special teams contributor, and was third at the position in total tackles despite only starting two games for the Colts. Odum looks to possibly be a long-term piece in a defense going through a massive youth movement in Chris Ballard's third full season as GM. Making his second season that much more interesting is the Colts' situation at safety. Most of the 2018 safety group are free agents, and the team could very well be in the hunt for an unquestioned starter opposite Malik Hooker. Odum isn't worried about all of that though. Odum is quite confident in his abilities, his willingness to work harder than anyone else, and the fact that he cherishes every opportunity he gets on the field. Odum was a fun interview, and was candid about his outlook to being in the NFL and doesn't rely on a chip on his shoulder from being an UDFA. He feels that he belongs in the NFL, and has everything he needs to remain a success in the league with his diverse skillset. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices

Indianapolis Football Podcast - Examining the Colts 53-man roster, and corresponding roster moves
play

09/03/18 • 55 min

Saturday the Indianapolis Colts set their initial 53-man roster. For the most part, they put together a group that most of us saw coming. There were some surprises, and those moves set the Colts fan base down a strange path. Fans and analysts alike didn't agree with them, but Chris Ballard certainly has his process that he believes in and is sticking to it. Two of those moves were the release of John Simon, and Ryan Delaire being waived after making the initial roster. One that is also of a bit strange for some is the trade that sent Darrell Daniels to the Seattle Seahawks in return for receiver Marcus Johnson. I look at all of these and try to make sense of it all. We discuss the current 53-man group as a whole, looking at the initial roster and what the subsequent moves that have changed it since. The Colts' lack of movement on the waiver wire, and how the roster is currently structured lends one to believe that more changes will be coming soon. The Colts have also began setting up their practice squad. At the moment there are 5 players on it, but there are still two names out there who have been linked to the Colts practice squad, and we have a pretty good idea of two more that may be added which would bring the group to 9. Where the Colts add that tenth player is still yet to be decided. It's been a busy 48 hours for the Colts and their fans. There are more moves yet to come with the team being less than a full week from their first regular season game against the Cincinnati Bengals. Learn more about your ad choices.
