play

08/16/24 • 62 min

On this week's episode of the In Seezyn Podcast we talk with Kip Adams from the National Deer Association. Kip Adams is NDA’s Chief Conservation Officer and has been with the organization for more than 20 years starting in August 2002. Prior to joining NDA he served as a Wildlife Biologist for the Florida Game and Fish Commission and as Deer and Bear Project Leader for the New Hampshire Game and Fish Department. We talk to Kip specifically about deer anatomy, the most lethal shots with a gun, with a bow, where you should shoot, where you shouldn't shoot. The effectiveness of different broadheads, heavy vs light arrows. We discussion of the causes of antler deformities, the factors that impact antler color and we even talk in detail about what some people refer to as “no man's land”. In Seezyn Podcast - Ep 15: Huntech Pro on U.S. soil to Hunt the Rut
play

12/07/23 • 60 min

Welcome back to episode 15 of the in Seezyn podcast. This episode is really special for holden and I because we had a chance to interact with 2 of our absolute favorite people, Johan and Beulah from Huntech Pro, they made the 16 hour trip from South Africa and were on US soil for only a few hours prior to recording this episode.
Huntech Pro is in the US for the second year in a row to hunt whitetail deer, but this time during the rut in the Midwest . They had a chance to hunt Ohio, Kentucky and Georgia during the best time of year for hunting whitetail. We talk about their adventures in the states from last year, plans for this year and what you could expect from a trip to South Africa. Holden and I had an incredible time in South Africa earlier this year with Treezyn and Huntech Pro and we left there with so many great memories, new friends and we can relive all of those memories since all hunts with Huntech are filmed and featured on their episodes that you can find on CarbonTV and YouTube.

Go check out Huntech pro at: https://www.huntechpro.co.za/

We hope you enjoy this episode of the In Seezyn podcast with Johan and Beulah from Huntech Pro

In Seezyn Podcast - Ep 46: Nothing Stings Like a Wasp
play

08/01/24 • 69 min

Welcome back to episode 46 of the In Seezyn Podcast, on this episode we talk with Fred from Wasp Archery. NOTHING PENETRATES OR DEVASTATES LIKE A WASP. In a world where more broadheads are sold because of who shoots them than how well they perform, it’s time to reconsider what’s on the end of your arrow. No manufacturer claims their broadheads are weaker, less accurate or less devastating. So how can Wasp definitively say their broadheads are unsurpassed in strength, accuracy and penetration? Here’s how:

  • Wasp made the world’s first commercially available replaceable blade broadhead
  • Over 45 years of American innovation
  • Replacement blades included with most broadheads
  • Wasp products are loaded with time-tested technical features that deliver proven performance on every shot
  • A true trocar tip that creates a sharp, strong leading edge for the blades to follow
  • Tough broadheads that resist bending and breaking even on contact against hard surfaces

On Episode 45 of the In Seezyn Podcast we talk with Heather Stevens, owner and operator of DeerAge. Heather has an extensive scientific background specializing in animal histology and Chad has over 20 years in the hunting industry as a taxidermist and avid bow hunter. Together they make the perfect pair to run DeerAge bringing together backgrounds that ensure they understand your needs as a customer. DeerAge is ALL ABOUT ACCURACY. Traditional aging methods like eruption-wear aging is common but has been scientifically proven to be inaccurate and an unreliable source of data in managing wildlife. In a study performed by Montana Fish and Wildlife, eruption-wear aging resulted in 62% accuracy for mule deer, 43% in whitetails and 36% in elk. Cementum annuli aging yields 93%, 85%, and 97% in mule deer whitetails and elk respectively. What is CEMENTUM ANNULI AGING you might ask.......

The basis for cementum annuli aging is the cyclic nature of cementum deposits on the roots of mammals’ teeth each year, which results in a pattern of “rings” in the tooth. Its similar to aging the rings on a tree. Abundant lightly staining cementum is formed in the growth season and dark staining “rings” form during the winter season. This provides a clear and accurate assessment of how many winters an animal has been alive.
Heather and the team at DeerAge offer an incredible service with elite level accuracy at an affordable cost. You can find more information about DeerAge at DeerAge.com or check them out in Instagram:

Welcome back to episode 14 of the in Seezyn podcast. This is the 2nd podcast this week that we have released, if you didn’t listen to the earlier episode with NiceTargets you should go back and check that one out and make sure to use the 15% off discount code they are providing to our listeners.

Todays episode is with Lindsay Thomas from the National Deer Association. Without a doubt this episode will provide more education, evidence and knowledge than all of our episodes combined.

National Deer Association is a non profit group focused on the future of wild deer, wildlife habitat and the future of hunting. We break down some of the myths and old wives tales surrounding hunting whitetails using research, evidence, and science. Lindsay breaks down the 4 most important factors for deer movement, specifically buck movement. The lack of evidence supporting the impact on moon phase and cold fronts on deer movement, which I think will hurt a lot of feelings out there however this evidence is based on multiple studies produced all across the country and not one persons opinion. The science behind doe harvest, buck to doe rations, and when you should consider harvesting does on your property to improve the habitat for other deer and have a more active rut.

Lindsay talks about the misconceptions of managing a wild deer herd through culling and talks through the evidence behind antler heritability.

My ask is that whatever your prior opinions, keep an open mind and remember that the things that Lindsay talks about are rooting in science and evidence not anecdotes and personal opinion.

Go check out the National Deer Association at https://deerassociation.com/ , they have incredible education, resources and they are helping to preserve the future of hunting for all of us.

In this episode of the In Seezyn Podcast we talk with Peter Churchbourne, the Managing Director for the NRA Hunting Division and Hunters Leadership Forum, we discuss the groundbreaking work by the NRA Hunters’ Leadership Forum (NRA-HLF) and Responsive Management, and how they have conducted extensive research on Americans' attitudes toward hunting and hunters. This research, combined with insights from top debate strategists and communication specialists, has been distilled into a powerful book: How to Talk About Hunting. In addition to this book there is a series of 6 articles summarizing these principles in the American Hunter Magazine.

Peter talks to us about why the public opinion of hunting matters and outlines multiple strategies that hunters can use in conversation, and on social media to improve the support from the non-hunting public, which largely determines the future of hunting across the country.

Key Takeaways:

  • The book is specifically designed for wildlife and conservation professionals to build support for hunting through persuasive and effective communication.
  • It provides tools to address the public on topics like the historical role and modern benefits of hunting, backed by new social science research and proven communication strategies.
  • With hunters representing less than 5% of the U.S. population, maintaining cultural acceptance of hunting is crucial for its future. The book emphasizes reaffirming shared values rather than changing minds.
  • The research revealed that most Americans (79%) already have a positive attitude toward hunting, making it a matter of effectively communicating the value of hunting and conservation.
