George Thomas takes us on a journey of his life - full of trials and triumphs! His career in hospitality brings us to the intersection of race, culture, identity and manhood. Be prepared to laugh and cry in the episode Jay Blessed calls her “favorite to date!”

Many parents are having a difficult time home-schooling their children. However, remote learning can be just as, if not more, frustrating for the child. In Ep 36: “Saving Our Children And Their Education During A Pandemic,” Dr. Nadia Lopez walks us through the challenges affecting most New York City public schools, especially those in impoverished neighborhoods, like Brownsville. Dr. Lopez highlights the hardships of homeschooling, discusses IEP / SETSS students, identifies the weaknesses and inequities in our educational system, challenges the public to be more active in elections, and offers sound advice to discouraged parents. Dr. Lopez even leaves Jay speechless in this powerful episode.

Ep. 36: "Saving Our Children and Their Education During A Pandemic" with Dr. Nadia Lopez

Dr. Nadia Lopez of Mott Hall Bridges Academy gives us inside access to the challenges our children, educators, and schools are facing during and after this pandemic. As a fellow parent of Latinx and Caribbean descent, this NYC school leader is overcoming her own personal mental health experience and is still championing for her scholars to maintain access to their education. As COVID19 continues to wreak havoc on the weaknesses in our community, students in poor areas could fall prey to generational issues if we do not provide educational resources and emotional support. Dr. Lopez shines a bright light on how we can prioritize our children’s education and strategize our collective voices to make valuable changes in the educational system, that disproportionately affect black and brown children.

DISCLAIMER: Ep. 35 “A Pandemic Survival Story” contains sensitive subject matter. With over 10,000 deaths and counting in New York due to COVID19, an executive at a major Brooklyn hospital shares his first-hand experience with the dreaded virus. Khari Edwards, VP of External Affairs at Brookdale Hospital Medical Center, joins Jay on Ep. 35 to discuss the realities of what’s happening in New York and to share how he looked his own mortality in the face, as he fought not being a death statistic.

Ep. 35 “A Pandemic Survival Story with Khari Edwards”

Lockdown is beginning to take a mental hold as the constant sounds of sirens become the daily soundtrack of New York City. On Ep. 35 “A Pandemic Survival Story,” Jay shares current Covid19 data and information before she is joined by the first VP of color at Brookdale Hospital Medical Center. Khari Edwards’ perspective from the administrative level at one of the hardest-hit hospitals is invaluable. However, his personal battle with coronavirus gives us an inside view on what COVID19 does to the body, mind, spirit and even relationships. Listen and share this emotionally raw episode, as we also acknowledge the mental health effects of this pandemic and honor those who have died a lonely death – those whose bodies still lay in trailers outside of hospitals.
