The last episode before the Christmas holiday, Episode 4 explores some ghosts of the past beginning with This Week In History. In this segment Christopher Setterlund discusses the Mayflower finding its way to Plymouth, explores the strongest earthquakes in American history, celebrates the Wright Brothers first successful flight in North Carolina, and gives the results of who won the NFL's first-ever championship game.
In the latest Road Trip we take a drive down to Mystic, Connecticut. It is home to the country's largest maritime museum, Mystic Seaport. Beyond that it was popularized in the hit 1980's movie Mystic Pizza starring Julia Roberts. Learn about this and more.
New Englanders, children of the 1980's, and many others, have fond memories of family trips to shop at the iconic Bradlees department store. Forever linked with Stop and Shop, and at one time a giant in the retail industry find out what led to its demise.
Episode 4 ends with looking back at the clothing brands that the 'cool kids' wore in school in the 1980's and 1990's. Names like Ocean Pacific and Vuarnet just to name a few bring back memories for me of begging my parents to get me a shirt or at least a sticker of the logo to put on my Trapper Keeper.
All of this and more is here in Episode 4, so come and take a walk!

Episode 3: I'm Going To Thompson's Clam Bar; York, Maine; and When I Realized Movies Weren't Real (12-03-2020)

Episode 3 of the podcast shares the history and legacy of one of Cape Cod's most beloved institutions. Thompson's Clam Bar reigned as the king of restaurants on the Cape for decades, becoming known all across the eastern United States. It had modest beginnings that evolved into a once-in-a-generation establishment still missed to this day decades after its demise.
We will take a Road Trip up north in New England to the town of York, Maine. One of the oldest towns in the region York is known for its classic Maine scenery along with high-class accommodations and tremendous restaurants. York is home to one of Maine's top sites in Cape Neddick (Nubble) Lighthouse, but there is so much more to uncover there.
This Week In History will reveal the sad mystery of Dr. George Hoyt Bigelow, allows us to have a drink as Prohibition ends, marks the ascension of Napoleon Bonaparte, and changes the landscape of music with the release of Michael Jackson's Thriller album.
Finally I will share the way I found out that movies, television shows, and the like, were not real life. Let's just say that it has to do with a character dying in a movie and then popping up on television alive and well afterwards and blowing my mind.
All of this and more on Episode 3 of the podcast, so come on and take a walk!

The New Year's Eve episode of the podcast begins with a little look back at the less-than-stellar year that was 2020 and the things that helped me get through it.
We'll take a Road Trip to the elbow of Cape Cod, Chatham, Massachusetts. It is historical, quaint, and filled with shopping. Chatham has tremendous beaches including one in front of Chatham Lighthouse. There is the iconic Chatham Bars Inn, Chatham Squire, and so much more. Get a crash course in what makes it so popular with visitors and locals alike.
Next is the story of a lost Cape Cod lighthouse. For decades a lighthouse watched over Wellfleet Harbor at Mayo Beach. It was decommissioned and sold. What happened to it after it was sold is amazing. Find out In Their Footsteps.
We go way Back In the Day to reminisce about the days of watching Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve. For kids of the 1980s through today, New Year's Eve is a chance to get to stay up late, which is always fun.
This Week In History explores when three lighthouses were built on the Eastham coast on Cape Cod. The Endangered Species Act helps to protect animals in danger of extinction. Thomas Edison unveils his incandescent light bulb to the masses, and the O.G. of children's television makes its debut.
All of this and more is here in Episode 5, so come and take a walk!
