An AI that codes, Joe Rogan's free speech fight, Self-Driving ups and downs, Instagram 3D Avatars
02/05/22 • 18 min
Here’s my recap of the most interesting tech news of last week:
- An AI that codes: Deepmind announced a new AI algorithm that can solve coding competitions better than 54% of developers. Is it over for developers?
- Joe Rogan’s free speech fight: Joe Rogan had Dr. Robert Malone on his podcast. He’s one of the pioneers of mRNA (the tech behind Pfizer’s and Moderna’s vaccines), but has very controversial opinions on the vaccine. Both scientists and musicians asked Spotify to remove that episode.
- Self-Driving ups and downs: Tesla had to remove an illegal self-driving functionality, while Cruise started a fully autonomous taxi service in San Francisco.
- Instagram 3D Avatars: Zuck wants you to personalize a 3D avatar and share it on Instagram, Facebook, Messenger, etc.. Why does it matter?

- Instagram will offer creators a way to charge their followers. After TikTok’s restaurant announcement, the war to keep creators has started.

Why Facebook lost $230B in one day (+ crypto thieves in jail, and booming Amazon)
Let's look at the most important tech news of last week:
- Meta (the old Facebook) announced some bad (like...very bad) quarterly earnings. Let's understand what happened and the risks the company is facing.
- Amazon also announced their quarterly earnings, but they were pretty dope instead. Now 1 out of 153 Americans work for Amazon, and their advertising business is bigger than Youtube.
- The US Department of Justice arrested the two hackers that stole 120k Bitcoin in 2016 and seized $3.6B worth of Bitcoin from them.
