"I'm In": The Official Institute of Hospitality Podcast

It’s tough for businesses out there at the moment. We can probably all agree on that, so we thought it would be interesting to learn some key things in building a stable business.

As always, Phil enlisted the help of three more brilliant humans from the IOH membership which this month included Jacob Gallant AIH, a sales manager at the Hilton Harrisburg in Pennsylvania, Mark Grant MIH, Sales Director at EP&T and Peter Russell FIH, COO & CTO at Russell Partnership Technology.

There were some fantastic points raised including:-

  • Some of the headline issues faced today
  • The changing rules
  • Having a Change focused mindset
  • The need for Transparency
  • Planning
  • Internal and External Relationships
  • A job for life
  • Training and Development
  • The part that Sustainability plays
  • Some of the basics to get right

Again some great reasons were given as to why our guests said I’m in to the IOH and they were:-

  • Worked with the IOH on events and wanted to get more involved
  • Watching people come together
  • The Diversity of people & Roles
  • To connect with likeminded professionals
  • To share resource and knowledge

It’s worth baring in mind that we all know it can be tough out there at the moment but please don’t suffer in silence. There’s an incredible network of knowledge available within the IOH and please don’t hesitate to reach out if you need help of any kind.

Enjoy!

I’m In Special – How do the technological trends of today, impact the hospitality industry of tomorrow?

In October 2023 at the Hotel & resort Tech Expo at London’s Excel, The IOH played a central role in leading some key discussions within the world of hospitality Tech. So much so, we thought it would be great to conduct 2 live podcast recordings on the subject of how today’s trends impact the industry of tomorrow.

In today’s episode, we air the 2nd of the two panel discussions we hosted.

For this one Phil welcomed Harsh Sodhani – Sales Manager at Hampton By Hilton London City, Katariina Reissaar – Front Office Manager at the Royal Airforce Club, Marco De Simone – now the Deputy restaurant Director at Corinthia London and Pablo Pereira-Doel – Lecturer at the University of Surrey.

Once again our panel really brought some great content including:-

  • Tech and Guest experience
  • How to get some balance between tech and people
  • What jobs will Technology take?
  • Technology from a sales perspective
  • The risks of technology
  • Tech and learning
  • Virtual Reality
  • How education keeps up with evolving tech trends
  • Tech v Human interaction
  • Individual Approach
  • Industry Collaboration
  • Questions from the audience

A huge thank you to our panel for tackling this vast topic head on.

Special - I'm In - The Institute of Hospitality's Official Podcast - International Women's Day 2024

International Women’s Day 2024 Special

We’re always up for a special bonus conversation and so we thought it would make sense to have a chat to coincide with International women’s day 2024. Phil enlisted the help of Lizzie Grundy AIH, Kat Price MIH and Tracey Fairclough FIH to chat through some of the challenges and opportunities that exist in the work place for women in 2024.

As always, they kicked off by giving their reasons for saying I’m in to the IOH including: -

  • The coming together of multiple sectors
  • The educational tools
  • To give back
  • Community
  • To make a positive change
  • To be part of a collective

And then to the main chat itself which was epic from the outset. Our panel covered :-

  • A brief history of women and paid work
  • External circumstances
  • Changing work patterns and flexibility
  • Women in the kitchen
  • The importance of Female Leadership
  • Game changing times
  • Generational viewpoints
  • Mentorship
  • Optimism
  • The role of men in progression
  • Respecting Individuality
  • Policy

A huge thank you to our guests who absolutely bought the thunder to the conversation.
