"I'm In": The Official Institute of Hospitality Podcast

3 more fantastic human beings from within the IOH ranks joined Phil Street, MIH to chat through the good and the bad of awards and accolades in an episode once again brought to you by those good people over at Caterer.com

They were, Brand Consultant Yvonne Joseph AIH who joined us from Lagos in Nigeria, Emily Coubrough MIH, a recent Acorn Award winner and Guest Experience & Communications Manager at the Iconic Savoy in London and Cyrus Todiwala FIH, Celebrity Chef Extraordinaire and Founder of Zest Quest Asia a fabulous competition for ambitious student chefs daring to be the best in Asian Cuisine.

As well as covering our headline topic, we learned all the reasons why our guests said #Imin to the IOH and we also got a couple of golden nuggets around the need to slow your career ambition down in order to help you get ahead whilst also chatting about the significance of the Mentor Me scheme.

Under the headline topic, each of the guests, and Phil, gave their experience of awards from within their life and career so far and so much came up including instilling a sense of pride, increasing your network within your peers, what it takes to produce an awards program, inspiring the next wave of talent, the prize can be the inspiration, confirmation that you are good at something, does winning come with responsibility?, It can inspire our teams, being nominated can be enough, not winning can drive you forward, Too many awards can dilute their appeal, There can be external pressure on expectation to win, celebrating every corner of the industry (This felt like a bit of a Battle cry).

No doubt it was an energetic and positive chat with 3 wonderful people.

Enjoy!

#002 - I'm In - The Institute of Hospitality's Official Podcast - To discipline or not to discipline? That is the question.

In the latest episode, now sponsored by Caterer.com, the panel of Libbie Davies AIH, Eugenio Pirri MIH and Tony Brien FIH, led by host Phil Street MIH, discuss the topic: To discipline or not to discipline? That is the question!

Included in the lively debate, the panellists cover why they said they are in, #imin to the IoH, coaching & counselling, the importance of ensuring there’s a support structure, the last resort and asking why? Also, using humility, having really strong communications on company policy, team unity, why a strong induction is important, having a mentor, controlling emotional response, training and the importance of calling bad practise out quickly. Amongst other points!

If you would like to be considered as a future guest or have feedback on the topics covered so far, please contact Phil Street at [email protected].

#004 - I'm In - The Institute of Hospitality's Official Podcast - New Year, New Job, New You

Another month passes and 3 more wonderful people from within the IOH ranks joined Phil Street, MIH to chat job hunting under the banner of New year, New Job, New you.

Katariina Reissaar AIH, Front office Manager with Jurys Inn Hotel Group, Mike Taylor MIH General Manager & Director at Hempstead House and Liz McGivern, Vice President of people and culture at Red Carnation Hotel Group all joined Phil for a lively chat.

As always, we learned why our guests said #Imin as well as covering off some great points for the headline topic such as that the grass isn’t always greener on the other side (But it can be), it’s important that you communicate your position internally before seeking a move away but important that the company communicates their position clearly too, unseen opportunity can be uncovered, Employers should keep strong links with other businesses in their given area, Ensure that you know what you do want, find your purpose, research the company, seek some trusted advice, know your values, nail the basics and make sure you back up any new year’s resolutions with actions.

A huge thank you to our guests who really did bring the energy.

Enjoy!
