HR in Review

In this episode of the HR in Review pod, we look at ways to increase productivity plus we consider why high EQ is important for effective leaders.

Guest: Lena Thompson
Bill Banham's guest this time is Lena Thompson, founder and speaker at Lena Thompson International and former System Analyst at Morgan Stanley.

Lena has 15+ years of experience in the corporate arena - consulting, training and designing systems for clients, including CBRE, Anglo-Irish Bank, Bank of Kuwait and others.

In 2018, Lena left her career to figure out her meaning in life and find her passion. Now, Lena is an award-winning entrepreneur and an international speaker whose mission is to bridge the gap between spirituality and the corporate world.

Questions for Lena include:

  • You often talk about productivity - can you share some productivity tips or suggestions for ways to think about it?
  • You also talk a lot about emotional intelligence. Why is high EQ important for effective leaders?
  • How do you think spirituality can be used in the business world? How can we make it practical? i.e. what tools can organisations use?
  • Is one's 'energy' inherent (are we born with it)/manifestation of our personality or is it learned?

Creating Unique Talent Management Solutions with Christopher Bjorling

In this episode of the HR in Review show, we hear from Christopher Bjorling, President at Fidello Inc, Associate Editor with me at HR Gazette, and co-host of the popular People and Performance Podcast.

Guest: Christopher Bjorling

For over 30 years Chris has led Fidello in creating unique talent management solutions. Through the products and services he and his team have created over the years, his organization has helped clients design, develop, and implement strategic, integrated talent management processes and systems.

Among these processes and systems are training and development, selection and recruitment, succession planning, performance management, career management, competency management, and learning management.

Questions for Chris include:

  • Why Fidello? Why set it up? What's the mission?
  • How has the focus on employee experience changed over the years?
  • Do employees have too much power today?
  • How does your team help identify strategic competencies and behaviors that drive results?
  • Talk to me about the technology behind what you do. How does your HR WebTM Software help HR pros manage the process – making the systems, reports, and data available to the people that need them to make strategic decisions and achieve strategic results?
  • I've had the pleasure of co-hosting the People and Performance Podcast with you for a few years. Tell the HRreview audience more about the pod.
  • If you could pass on one crucial lesson you have learned in your career - in one minute or less - what would be your top tip for HR professionals and leaders?
  • What is the single biggest change you think will happen in HR and leadership over the next 5-10 years?

Disrupting Ways We Coach and Learn with Naysan Firoozmand

In this episode of the HR in Review podcast, Bill Banham talks with Naysan Firoozmand, Global Head of Coaching at Hult EF Corporate Education and speaker at DisruptHR London 18.0 happening September 25.

Guest: Naysan Firoozmand

Naysan has 20+ years of experience of working with senior leaders across a wide range of public and private sectors. He says he is inspired and intrigued by human behavior and the influencing factors around why people do things the way they do them within their specific context.

As Vice President and Global Head of Coaching at Hult EF, Naysan and his team support the implementation of individual and team-based coaching to clients all over the world. He works with leaders in a very practical way, using his background in coaching, facilitation, assessment and psychology to allow people he works with to try new techniques and gain in personal confidence to do things with greater skill.

Questions for Naysan include:

  • The mission of Hult EF Corporate Education is to create change-makers by transforming the way they communicate, perform, and lead. Tell us more.
  • In a LinkedIn post from early 2023, you write: "Building resilience among senior executives is a global imperative. Countless think pieces talk about how it's a key characteristic and predictor of success for high-performing leaders. It's also one of the most common reasons people seek coaching, as people look for support in building their stress tolerance. But is there a point at which resilience can become toxic? I explore this in a new article for HR magazine." Tell us more about how resilience can become toxic.
  • In a post on the Hult EF blog, you discuss suggest there's a lack of clarity as to what makes for exceptional coaching. You go on to offer some key metrics to ensure one chooses a coach or coaching team that will make a genuine difference to their performance. Can you share some of these measures with us?
  • You're speaking at DisruptHR London on Sept 25. Your session is called 'Unleash Your Talent Through Coaching'. Tell us about the talk and what attendees can expect to learn.
