003: Staying Strong in the Face of Unexpected Tragedy with Avi Benaim
HowieDoinIt — a podcast about resilience09/12/19 • 43 min
In the summer of 2015, Avi Benaim’s life was about as perfect as it could be. His family business was doing great; money was good; and he and the love of his life, his wife Michelle, were preparing to move to the beach with their three young children. Then, Michelle got an unexpected diagnosis that turned their world upside down.
Over the next year and a half, Avi and his family faced one major setback after another. When things seemed to be getting better, Michelle’s health took a turn for the worse. Yet, despite all the turmoil and uncertainty, Avi never gave up.
In today’s show, Avi shares his family’s battle with cancer and how strong social connections helped him get through some of the toughest times. He shares how to navigate difficult emotions when the unthinkable happens, and what drives him to give back even after experiencing tremendous loss.
In this episode, Avi and I discuss:
- The unexpected tragedy that struck his family not once, but twice.
- How not to let anger get the best of you, even when life seems unfair.
- Where to find the strength to keep going when you want to give up.
- Why it is important to build strong social connections before difficult moments arise.
- And much more...
