01/10/22 • 31 min
My guest today is Madeline Mann.
When I think of Madeline, I think: rapid fire job search tips and entertainment. In fact, Madeline is probably the only career coach who is killing it on Youtube, TikTok and LinkedIn all at the same time. Today we will speak with Madeline about her own career journey in senior HR roles in startups in the gaming, tech and energy space and what made her start her iconic brand Self Made Millennial.
We talk about:
Her various career moves and her favourite tips to those looking to change industries
What made Madeline leave a job where she was very happy, and what made her convert her side-hustle to full time
Her most trusted and tested piece of advice that she gives repeatedly that helps people zero in on what they want and how to get it faster
This was an honest and refreshing conversation, I hope you enjoy it as much as I did!

66. Rupert French: How to Keep Winning at any Age
“I dropped out of high school in the 10th grade. I was a total failure at school. Subsequently, I joined the army and stayed there for 7 years. Then, I transitioned to becoming a journalist and was all over the place during my journalism career, and ended up at the Sydney Morning Herald. Great job, terrible hours.
Then somehow, I got a chance to go to University in my 30's. That's what I did, came away with a honours degree and a wife.”
Today I am speaking with Rupert French who is a Job Search Specialist and author of the book ‘How to get a good job after 50’. But Rupert is not like other coaches. Firstly, Rupert has been helping disadvantaged job seekers for over 40 years! Secondly, he’s my first guest from the beautiful island state of Tasmania in Australia, and third, Rupert is my first octogenarian guest! Rupert is 83 and continues to work tirelessly to help those who need it the most.
In this powerful and fun conversation, Rupert and I talk about:
How he moved at an early age from England to Australia
- The unforgettable reason that made him start work as a job search coach
His words of advice for anyone who is doing their best but sees a lot stacked against them (circumstances, discrimination etc)
His three timeless job search strategies that he has seen work over and over again, whether in 1982 or 2022.
We had a lot of fun and laughs too, hope you enjoy the conversation as much as we did!

68. Simran Kaur: The Fearless Career
My guest today is the very fearless Simran Kaur.
Simran has had a fabulous career building and leading product development in Health tech and across corporates and startups in Germany, Singapore and the UAE and taught as guest faculty at prestigious universities.
In this revealing episode, Simran shares how an ambitious girl from India went to Germany to pursue engineering, got hired by Siemens and even got mentored by a senior group level CEO. We also talk about how she started Power Women, a successful platform that has attracted top notch female leaders from all sectors.
Read the following excerpt:
"When I started out my professional life, I did not think about the ceiling, the pay gap, or topics such as diversity and inclusion. I came into the workforce believing that the playing field was level. I became mindful of many of these topics as my career progressed. As many other women, I too experienced being excluded, and realized that my journey had hurdles, which as a young ambitious girl I had never imagined. Over time I realised we needed to build the right networks and a support system to overcome these challenges, get stronger and keep on rising. And Power Women was born! There are so many powerful women are doing amazing work and their stories need to be told. We want to not only bring these women leaders into the C-Suites, Boardrooms and make them have multi-billion dollar exits but we also want to inspire the next generation of women."
Simran has been featured as one of GCC’s 50 Women Leaders, has an MBA from INSEAD and speaks 6 languages!
