HornBloodFire

On today’s episode I’m joined by Rebecca McCallum, film journalist, assistant editor for Ghouls Mag and author of Mums + Sons zine.

Rebecca is one of the most hard-working women in horror, having had her writing featured in Rue Morgue, Dread Central and Grim Magazine, as well as her series with Moving Pictures film club about the Women of Hitchcock AND her recently published pocketbook. I knew having Rebecca on the show meant incredibly thoughtful analysis and amazing insights, and her FFO of Gothic, dreams and women leant itself perfectly to a film deserving of such: Roman Polanski’s 1968 meditation on the horrors of motherhood and misogyny: ROSEMARY’S BABY.
Join Rebecca and I as we dissect one of the most important, troubled, terrifying and relevant horror films of our time. Vodka blush anyone?

Content warning: This episode contains discussion of rape, child abuse and sexual assault.

Episode 12: Annihilation with Joe Chen (@joforworms)

On today’s episode I’m joined by Joe Chen, drummer and vocalist for UK death metal band Vacuous, and writer/review for Grinding Horror Zine.

Joe’s music taste might be on the blacker side, but his FFO of uncanny, heartless and colour was a welcome challenge; after all, an iconic colour palette is integral to the mood of any good horror. Alex Garland’s 2018 trippy sci-fi biobodyhorror has colour in abundance; nauseating yellows and lush forest greens all seeping through the migraine-inducing spill of the Shimmer. Join Joe and I as we discuss disease, decay and death metal.

Episode 14: Come True with Ariel Hansen (@HansenHorror)

On today’s episode I’m joined by Ariel Hansen, filmmaker, actor and co-founder of Bad Cookie Pictures.

Ariel is one of the many guests who has left me floored with her creativity - from her directing and acting talents to her clothes and costume-making skills. Her short film Nepenthes is a gooey, gory delight and just one of her many fantastic works. With her FFO of supernatural, occult and experiment, I decided to take a risk and choose a film neither of us had seen before. It doesn’t fully match the FFO but we had a wonderful time talking about it and I’d certainly list this as one of my favourite modern moody horrors.

Join Ariel and I as we drift off to a surreal and shadowy slumber with 2021’s COME TRUE.
