The holidays are upon us - and let’s face it we all have our favorites. I have a coworker who lives for Halloween, friends who get excited for Friendsgiving, their take on the Thanksgiving holiday, and what child doesn’t look forward to Christmas?
However, did you know that with the holidays comes an increase in injuries, residential fires, and even domestic violence? According to the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission, cooking fires remain the #1 cause of residential fires with most of those occurring on Thanksgiving Day; they also report 160 decorating-related injuries EACH DAY during the holiday season most involving falls; and according to BestLife, online fraud attempts spike approx 14% between Thanksgiving Day and Cyber Monday alone.

So, how can we prepare for a safe holiday season this year? Well we have TWO experts with us today: Judy Echavez, Public Affairs Specialist and Communications Coordinator for the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission; and Officer Amy Bryant, Crime Prevention and Community Relations Specialist with the Sandy City Police Department in Utah.
Today on Holly's Highlights podcast these experts will give us tips on being safe this holiday season including:
- preparing our car for road trips
- protecting our car from burglaries and theft
- preventions for our home from trees to holiday lights
- home invasion and burglary protection
- Halloween safety from costumes and allergic reactions, to pedestrians and motorists
- Thanksgiving cautions for turkey fryers, all that Black Friday shopping and domestic abuse increases
- Christmas tips for age appropriate toys, disposing of all that trash that reveals what you have inside your home, and even helping kids know who to and not to go to if lost while out and about
- New Years safety measures for driving, drinking and all things party-going
This is an episode that can help keep you and your family alert and safe these holidays.

2 years ago Holly’s Highlights podcast released. We have just released our 62 episode, have reached sponsorship level, have celebrated yet another goal with our listenership and even have listeners on every continent - how cool is that?! I never would have imagined that here I’d be two years into this, someone who honestly hadn’t even listened to podcasts, and I am absolutely LOVING it! 😍

‌Although my podcast came into fruition as result of pre-planning for my book to be published, there are many reasons podcasts are created:
- promote your brand, product or services
- share about a topic you are passionate about
- position yourself as an expert or authority in your industry
- to increase your audience for other avenues
- create community
- or perhaps just because it's fun!
‌Unfortunately only 32% of podcasts make it to their 1st to 3rd year. There are 55% of Americans who listened to podcasts, 51% of those are males, and 79% tend to listen to podcasts while commuting. The most popular age group listening to podcasts? Ages 35-54.
Now, if you have learned anything from me I hope it’s the importance of having a growth mindset. So, today we have Meredith Hackwith Edwards, host of Meredith for Real podcast, with us on Holly's Highlights podcast to help us learn the ins and outs of starting a podcast.
Take Aways:
- steps to starting your own podcast
- equipment suggestions to help you excel
- suggestions of where to host your show
- podcasting distribution links vs. you tube podcasting
- how to reach your audience, promote your show, and build your reach
- what sponsorships look like
- hacks and tips to relieve the stress of podcasting
We know that starting something new can be scary! But overall, remember that when God calls you to something, do it! No matter the unknowns, the fears, the insecurities nor the investments - where He leads, He’ll provide and bless too.
‌Again, on this 2nd anniversary of Holly’s Highlights podcast I just want to say - Thank you! Thank you for supporting the show by listening. Thank you to the amazing guests who have invested time and shared their talent to help us all learn and grow. And thank you sponsors for making this possible. If you’d like to learn more about sponsorship send me a message at [email protected].
‌I welcome you to share the podcast with your friends, neighbors, coworkers and family. I would value your rating and comments wherever you listen to podcasts (apple podcasts, overcast, spotify, the list goes on). And I always welcome your feedback on topics you’d like to learn about and/or people you’d like to learn from on Holly’s Highlights podcast.
‌It truly is a pleasure getting to encourage, inspire, and equip others to intentionally live their life full of purpose - thank you for doing just that in my life too!
