Kevin says Mean Girls kinda rocks!
After twenty years, MEAN GIRLS is making its way back to the big screen, this time as an adaptation of the Broadway musical.
The story follows a home-schooled girl who has her first taste of public high school. She befriends the popular clique but soon learns these girls can be... well, downright mean.
The production is bright, vibrant and colorful, and the song and dance numbers are impressive for their creativity... though at times they threaten to overshadow the story.
This version seems more of a tribute to the original film than a remake or adaptation. The film is fraught with cliches and tropes that have become far too routine in films lately.
The updates pander to the social media generation, considering none of these platforms even existed in 2004. If I have to sit through another TIkTok montage in a high school comedy, I’m gonna lose it.
In the end, MEAN GIRLS is entertaining enough, and it should land well with its target audience. Though I’m doubtful if this will form a new clique. It will likely just be remembered as secondary to the original.
MEAN GIRLS gets three and a half pink sweaters out of five. I’m Kevin Carr, and that’s the way I see it.

Kevin says I.S.S. kinda rocks!
Patriotism and morality come to a head in the new science fiction thriller I.S.S.
The story follows a group of astronauts and cosmonauts on the International Space Station who are told to secure the facility when a war breaks out on Earth.
I’m a sucker for movies about people stuck in space, so I enjoyed the premise more than others might. The tense relationships offer a good “what would you do” scenario.
Ariana DeBose heads the cast as an astronaut who just wants to keep the peace, and she shows some range outside of her better-known musical performances.
However, the story commits to not committing when it comes to background and explanations. Yeah, that works in the limited location, but it often feels more like the screenwriter just didn’t want to play the story out.
The interpersonal tension only works only about half of the time, and the plot stoops to clichés and pulpy tropes to offer some excitement in the climax.
The movie manages to take off, but it gets a bit singed trying to get back to the ground.
I.S.S. gets three oxygen tanks out of five. I’m Kevin Carr, and that’s the way I see it.
