Australia's First Uterus Transplant Recipient, Kirsty Bryant's Story
06/09/24 • 55 min
In this episode I speak with Kirsty Bryant. Kirsty is the first woman in Australia to receive a uterus transplant and to give birth to a baby from a transplanted uterus.
When Kirsty gave birth to her daughter Violet she suffered a traumatic bleed which resulted in a life saving hysterectomy. Kirsty takes us through what it was like waking up from an induced coma knowing her uterus had been removed, her postpartum journey with Violet, the clinical trial and transplant surgery which she underwent in Sydney at The Royal Hospital for Women with her Mum. We discuss her second pregnancy, the birth of Henry, anti-rejection medications and the side effects of these drugs, and finally what lies ahead for their family.
You can find Kirsty and see some photos of her family on instagram @myuterustransplantaus
