Dr. Zarya Rubin, a Harvard-educated functional medicine physician and burnout expert, shares her journey and the connection between early childhood trauma and burnout. She notes that burnout is characterized by extreme tiredness, cynicism, and decreased productivity. Early childhood trauma can increase the risk of developing burnout later in life. We also learn that the mind-body connection is crucial in understanding burnout and its physical impact. According to Dr. Zarya, functional medicine takes a holistic approach, considering the whole person and the interconnectedness of body systems. It focuses on achieving health and balance by addressing the root cause of symptoms. Functional medicine also emphasizes personalized care, taking into account an individual's genetic makeup, biochemistry, and other factors. Dr. Zarya also shares practical (and brilliant!) advice on what we can do to reduce our risk of burnout, so be sure to listen to the end!
