Hellbound with Halos - "Guest Rodney Damon Collins"

"Guest Rodney Damon Collins"

03/05/19 • 42 min

Hellbound with Halos
Actor, Motivational Speaker, Director, and Writer, Rodney Damon Collins joins us for a look into his life and some stories on how he made it from Cleveland, OH to Los Angeles, CA. Being a family man, Rodney wanted to tend to his family and ensure that he spent time with his kids, prior to chasing his lifelong dream of acting. It all started for him in high school when we made a "skit" with some buddies for the "homecoming court". He went onto college and minored in theatre (without his parents knowledge), in order to have an opportunity, at some point in life, to get into acting. He's done some smaller roles on independent films as well as appearing as a Superhero on "Chosen Kin Origins" that can be seen on Amazon. Even with as busy as Rodney is in his full time acting career, he's written a motivational book entitled, "Shattered: A Journey Through the Pieces". A brief description of this book: The broken pieces of our lives create the most incredible portrait. Individually, each piece represents a part of our story. The journey to our dreams is like an unmarked roadmap, through each stage we learn the true meaning of what it means to live a fulfilled life. (-Source- Amazon) You can find the link to his book in his links below. We cannot wait to read it, or maybe even listen to his work. He's appeared in "Deadly Sins" a TV Series, and movies "The Job Interview", "Equal Chances", and "The Single Life" TV Series. With the look of Denzel Washington and one of the kindest people we've had on the podcast, we wish Rodney only the best as he moves forward in his acting career. "Friends"

What makes a friend? Why do we call some our "BFF's", while others are "just friends"? Kevin & Sully go in depth in this episode all about friendship. From, who your "bury a body" friends are to ones that betray and back stab you. Sully has levels of friends. A level one friend is where you maybe text each other here or there. A Level 2-3 is where you text/call and joke with one another. Level 4 is going to each others house and hanging, having a drink or two, and so on. Level 5 is the bury a body friend. But friends don't take much to show their true colors either. Have you ever had a friend that talked behind your back and you found out about it? How about when you needed someone to talk to and they ghost you? Those are the times when you find out who your true friends are. Kevin keeps his circle of friends small. He describes how podcasting has helped him open up a little more on his personal life to people he's never met. He talks about how he really doesn't like people knowing a lot about him, but realized quickly through podcasting that it's helped teach him to open up a bit. Kevin doesn't easily trust people but says his ability to "read" people's personalities, has helped immensely. Always putting a fun, yet truthful twist into episodes, Kevin & Sully will have you not wanting to pause this episode to pick up that phone call at work.

"PTSD - Not All Wounds Are Visible"

The definition of PTSD, or "PTS" as some may refer to it as, is a psychiatric disorder that can occur in people who have experienced or witnessed a traumatic event such as a natural disaster, a serious accident, a terrorist act, war/combat, rape or other violent personal assault. Meaning, this can and will happen to people outside of the military, first responders and the like. This impacts everyone and it can often go unseen, as we typically don't relate a lot of our problems back to "PTSD". This week we welcome Candace from "Your Six", an organization that empowers and helps heroes and their families through confidential peer support, gatherings and social events. Her tactics are not typical or traditional, as being a first responder and veteran herself, she knows that talking to others in our fields works much better than some "old man/lady" from the local Critical Incident team. Her theory is that she, and others, can relate with the stresses of the day to day workflow in this profession. They understand what a person with PTSD is going through and have developed ways to circumvent the terror behind it. If you feel the need to reach out, even confidentially, look no further. These are trained professionals, in our professions, that can help you through those tough times, and give you a plan for a brighter future! You can find more on "Your Six" and "HeroPeers" through the links below! Facebook - http://facebook.com/yoursixrochester www.firstlineresponders.com/join
