It Takes Courage

What would you do?
What would you do if you were asked by your Government to shoot without care into a crowd of innocent citizens. Citizens that you swore to protect... Citizens you chose to serve... Citizens who trusted you?
This is just one of the stories that came to mind for our guest Pepe, as he tells us of his journey with the Notre Dame Refugee Centre based in Leicester Square, London!
Pepe, other airline crew, plus many other amazingly giving people have been a part of this centre that offers much needed help and advice to those who have been put in to the unfortunate situation of being left on the streets.
Originally set up by the Notre Dame church in Paris, the centre is a place of comfort for refugees or those who might be seeking asylum. It is a welcoming place that offers these unfortunate people some food, some clothing from 'Harrods', a cup of tea or coffee (which many of the crew have loads of experience with), or even just for a welcome chat...
This kind of chat was how Pepe was able to meet a man from Nicaragua, a policeman who had to flea his country, or face a charge of treason for not obeying an order.
The aim of the centre, with the help of migration experts, is to help create a path for these people, in their hope for a better life... for a future!
To get more information on this amazing centre, please visit their website at www.notredamerc.org.uk
...but first, have a listen to this very interesting chat with Pepe, a truly caring and nurturing soul, and someone who undoubtedly deserves to be classed as a 'Hatrack Hero'.

An Oasis Of Hope
The great Nobel Prize Laureate Kofi Annan once said “Literacy is a bridge from misery to hope", and this is a quote that our guest Mandy also believes in as she discusses the work she's done with the children of St. Nicholas School.
A small town on the coast of Ghana, and part of the bustling capital of Accra, Tema New Town is home to this school, and sadly to many underprivileged children.
The kind of life these children lead, is not something you'd ever wish for any child... but with the help of the the Tsakos Group, the school, it's teachers, and the many airline crew who regularly visit, these children can afford to feel positive about what the future might hold for them.
Crew like Mandy, who began the initiative of sponsoring the children, are extra special in the eyes of the children, but in turn (and probably more so), are extra special in the eyes of the crew.
This chat with Mandy is one that really shows how truly selfless Mandy is in helping others, and supporting others... it really is inspirational to be taking the initiative in giving children like the ones from St. Nicholas a hope for the future.

Flying High
A day in the life of one of these children has possibly never been so special. A day where they are without worries, a day without illness or disability, a day they will never forget, a day where they are literally as free as a bird.
Wouter, from Stichting Hoogvliegers, gives us an insight into this special organisation based in The Netherlands. An organisation that caters to children aged 6-17 who are sick or disabled, giving them the extremely amazing opportunity of flying a plane for the day.
Pilots from all over the country make their time, their plane (or helicopter) available to be able to take these children on a journey of a lifetime.
A truly informative & interesting chat with a modest gentleman, who (along with his colleagues) is just trying to give these children a special experience. One they will never forget.
If you'd like to find out more, please visit their website at Stichting Hoogvliegers . You can also find them on Instagram or Facebook under the same name.
