For this month we chose the book Triggers: Exchanging Parents' Angry Reactions for Gentle Biblical Responses written by authors Amber Lia & Wendy Speake.
We chose this book because we felt like we were growing in many areas by reading, listening and learning, but collectively we weren't growing in our parenting together. So after doing some research, Johnna found Triggers and felt the instant connection to the book.
The authors are both moms who are easy to resonate with in their real life stories of examining the external and internal triggers that set them off into anger in their parenting journey.
In this episode Chris and Johnna cover chapter one of the book on the topic of disobedience and give you all the things they took away.
- Disobedience
- expectations of obedience (Ephesians 6:1)
- righteous anger
- the sinful behaviors that anger causes in us (pg 23 of Triggers)
- entitled children
- God wants us to obey because obedience gives birth to blessing (pg 21 of Triggers)
- God is the God of 70x7 chances, he doesn't whack us upside the head or deal harshly
- "Iron fists chisel stony hearts, but graceful hands shape responsive hearts." (pg 22/23 of Triggers)
