Today we continue with the series of quotes on "Perfectionism" that I started a few weeks ago. Today's quote comes from the former COO of Facebook/Meta, Sheryl Sandberg.
It is a quote that you have probably heard before. Heck, I think I mentioned it in the first episode of this series on Perfectionism. However, I thought it was one of those quotes that are by an unknown, anonymous source. But when I Googled the quote, Sheryl Sandberg popped up as the person this quote is most often attributed to.
It may have come from her bestselling book, "Lean In: Women, Work, & the Will to Lead," but I'm not certain of that. (Although I will be finding out because that book is in my stack of books I want to read over the course of the next year)
No matter where she first said it or wrote it, it is an outstanding quote on how perfectionism can paralyze us into doing nothing. You'll understand what I mean by that in the episode. You'll also understand why it was the "perfect" (pun intended!) quote to do for today's episode, in particular.

Today we continue with the series of quotes on "Perfectionism" that I started a few weeks ago. Today's quotes form the final episode of three episode that make up a "Mini-Series" within the series. They are by Dr. Brene Brown from her book, Daring Greatly: How the Courage to Be Vulnerable Transforms the Way We Live, Love, Parent, and Lead.As you heard me say in each of the last three episodes, I HIGHLY recommend you get this book! It has vaulted onto my list of Top 5 or Top 10 books that everyone should read, especially anyone who is a leader or a parent.
The quotes you hear today wrap up the mini-series by talking about some of the other problematic areas of perfectionism, but also offering a couple of ideas on how to deal with perfectionism in ways that can help us be better.
I hope you enjoyed this little series within the series. I know I enjoyed the concepts that Dr. Brown taught us about perfectionism.

Today we continue with the series of quotes on "Perfectionism" that I started a couple of weeks ago. Today's quotes form the second of three episode that make up a "Mini-Series" within the series. They are by Dr. Brene Brown from her book, Daring Greatly: How the Courage to Be Vulnerable Transforms the Way We Live, Love, Parent, and Lead.As you heard me say in the episode numerous times, I HIGHLY recommend you get this book! I finished it this morning, and it has vaulted onto my list of Top 5 or Top 10 books that everyone should read, especially anyone who is a leader or a parent.
The quotes you hear today follow in the footsteps of last week's episode in which I read four bullet points that she made explaining what perfectionism IS NOT. Today you will hear four more bullet points, this time explaining what perfectionism IS.
Next week I will wrap up this mini-series with a few more quotes from Dr. Brown that offer impactful ideas on perfectionism and how to deal with it.

Today we continue with the new series of quotes on "Perfectionism" that I started a couple of weeks ago. This is a great topic for coaches because we all deal with "perfectionist athletes" at points in our careers, and for most of us we deal with them every season. The quotes that I will be discussing will get at the heart of perfectionism, why it can be crippling to performance, and what we can/should do about it to keep it from destroying our ability to grow and develop the best that we can.
Today's quotes form the beginning of a mini-series within the series. That's because for the next few weeks I will discuss quotes by Dr. Brene Brown from her book, Daring Greatly: How the Courage to Be Vulnerable Transforms the Way We Live, Love, Parent, and Lead. I HIGHLY recommend you get this book! It is so good and has so many powerful impactful ideas and lessons for all of us, especially those of us in any type of leadership position.
The quotes you hear today kick off a short section in the book on perfectionism and why perfectionism is so crippling to us in our efforts to become the best versions of ourselves that we can be.

Today we start a new series of quotes on "Perfectionism." While I'm sure I have touched on the concept of perfectionism at times in different episodes of the podcast, I don't recall ever devoting any specific episodes to the idea of perfectionism, so I thought it would be a good topic to discuss.
This is also a great topic for coaches because we all deal with "perfectionist athletes" at points in our careers, and for most of us we deal with them every season. The quotes that I will be discussing will get at the heart of perfectionism, why it can be crippling to performance, and what we can/should do about it to keep it from destroying our ability to grow and develop the best that we can.
This first quote is a fairly famous one that is most often attributed to Voltaire, but it has been tweaked and changed at times through the years. It is one that you have probably heard before, and it is a good one to kick off the series.

Happy Labor Day! In honor of this holiday devoted to the American worker, I thought I would do a few quotes about the value of hard work. I have talked about some of these before, and a few of them are in my gift book for coaches to give to their graduating seniors called, "Inspiration for the Graduate." However, you will also hear a couple of quotes that are not in the book and that I have not talked about before.

Long title to today's episode, huh? That's because I cover a few different quotes from an article in The Athletic earlier this month about the coaching staff of the US Men's Basketball Team playing in the World Cup.
It was a great article about how unselfish each of these superstar coaches is, as they have all come together with the common goal of helping bring home a gold medal.
There were some great quotes about the five words in the title of this episode from the four coaches, so I talked about each of them.
Those of you who coach can get a lot out of this, no matter what sport you coach. Those of you who don't coach can get a lot out of this for whatever realm you are involved in a team type of setting.

We follow up the last few week's ideas on significance in quotes by Oprah Winfrey, Michael Josephson, Ken Blanchard, Jackie Robinson, Nelson Mandela, Sean Michael Norris, and John Maxwell with three new quotes on significance.
These quotes talk about a few concepts: where significance comes from, the impact that we have on others, even when we aren't necessarily thinking about it, and the power and importance of caring for others.
These quotes also help expand on the concepts of significance that I have been discussing as I build the SlamDunk Significance program that I told you about a couple of months ago. You can check out my new SlamDunk Significance program at slamdunksignificance.com.

We follow up the last few week's ideas on significance in quotes by Oprah Winfrey, Michael Josephson, Ken Blanchard, Jackie Robinson, and Nelson Mandela with two more quotes. These two are by Sean Michael Norris and, once again, John Maxwell.
Each of these quotes talks about the importance of focusing on significance each day. The Norris quote has a unique approach to the concept, while the Maxwell quote is exactly what you would expect from Maxwell—something that is spot-on if we want to bring value to others..
Both quotes also continue to expand on the concepts of significance that I have been discussing as I build the SlamDunk Significance program that I told you about a few weeks ago. You can check out my new SlamDunk Significance program at slamdunksignificance.com.

In today's episode, we move back to the interview format. This one is a special treat for me, as I get to talk to a coach who I have followed online for many years. His name is Alan Stein, Jr.
I first found Alan when he was a basketball skills trainer, and he was doing all kinds of videos for players and coaches to help improve their skills and performance. I used a variety of his strategies with my players and my teams. However, I also loved his messages of leadership and productivity for coaches. As he transitioned from basketball skills trainer to a trainer of coaches, CEOs, and leaders of any type, I found myself going back to him again and again.
Alan talks about a quote in our conversation that is extremely powerful. It is also from a source unlike any other that we have had so far on the podcast, and I don't know if we will ever have another guest on the podcast who will have a quote from the same type of source that Alan's quote came from. (Now wasn't that an excellent tease to get you to listen?!)
Alan is extremely active on all the social channels. He has written a book called Raise Your Game, and he also has his own podcast called the Raise Your Game Show that I highly recommend you check out. Finally, he has produced a couple of courses - one for athletes and one for coaches - on raising your personal productivity.
You can find out more about Alan in the following places:
Invest in Alan's new Your Game Plan coaching course

Opt-in to his content-heavy monthly emails (Full Time Out, 30 Second Time Out, and Overtime) on his website

Engage with Alan on Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, and LinkedIn

Enjoy a consistent stream of new weekly content on his blog and his podcast

Order a copy of Raise Your Game (book or audiobook)
