This week on the show Maine and Emil talk about the upcoming professional BJJ events that have been announced, as well as talk about the banger of a card that was UFC 249 headline by Justin Gaethje vs Tony Ferguson.

Maine and Emil kick the show off talking about the BJJ professional news including everyone announcing tons of events for professional BJJ cards. We talk about Fight to Win this weekend In Dallas with back-to-back events, 139 Friday then 140 Saturday May 15th and May 16th. We talk about all the Third Coast Grappling events Four Kumite events announced under and over 180 for Gi and No-GI plus 3CGIV August 8th. As well as the stacked 8 man bracket, Isaque Bahiense, Lucas Valente, Manuel Ribamar, Roberto Jimenez, Jake Watson, William Tackett, Pedro Marino, Gustavo Batista, and a Possible Pedro vs Jiminez 4th rematch.

We talk about Submission Underground Vagner Roacha Vs Craig Jones on May 31st and Spyder Korea Invitational event on the same day with Road To Black Belt.

We also talk about some of the names announced for the June 13th JitzKing event.

In the UFC 249 recap section the hosts talk about how crazy the card was and how the difference in the corners was on display. We talked about the difference in hearing the sound of each punch and how it gave us a new appreciation for how hard these fighters hit. We talk about the Co main event between Cejudo and Cruz that ended somewhat controversially in some people’s eyes. Plus we talk about a few other fights on the card as well.

We talk about Jacare vs Werdum in the BJJ Historical breakdown section of the show. Talking about some great takedowns and how the meta of the takedown game has shifted over the years.

In the preview section of the show we take a look at both Fight to Win 139 and 140 happening back-to-back days this weekend is Dallas Texas. With 139 being headlined by Vinicius Ferreira vs Roberto Cyborg Abreu with Johnny Tama vs Ethan Crelinsten on as the co-main. On F2W 140 we talk about Aj Agazarm vs Osvaldo Queixinho Moiznho as the main event and Roberto Jimenez vs Gabriel Almedia as the co-main.

In the outro section we have some technical problems and talk about what we have been doing workout wise in quarantine.

In the recap section of the show we discuss quintet 4 featuring the B Team Bulls Team 10th planet, Team Sakuraba, and Team Polaris. We break down every match of the preliminary round and the finals round throughout the entire event as well as highlight some notable moments including two fantastic submissions by Craig Jones in his rematch with Richie Martinez and Craig Jones vs Geo Martinez where we see again a return to the meta and the back triangle armbar combination we've been seeing a lot recently.

In the news section of the show we discuss the death of Leandro Lo over the weekend and briefly speak about his accomplishments and contributions to the sport, as well as some of his greatest matches.
In the recap section of the show we discussed the main event of Gordon Ryan vs Felipe Pena 3 that ended by a verbal tap after a pass. We discussed the Circumstances surrounding the match including some potential behind the scenes drama in connection with Leandro Lo’s death, Pena mental state going into the match and want for the match to be shorter. We discussed the no-time limit factor that saw the pacing of the match remain slow early and saw long stretches of 50-50 work from Pena, and passing attempts from Gordon. We also discussed some of the take down sequences from Gordon, And went in-depth on what a potential rematch under ADCC rules looks like and how Gordon Vs Andre Galavo may look in the ADCC Superfight.
In the recap of Nicholas Meregali vs Rafael Lovato Jr. We discussed the implementation of Nichola’s wrestling and how he was able to put Lovato into the guard and on his back and work his passing on his way to a very clean Unanimous decision.

In Jacob Couch vs Jay Rodriguez We discussed Jacob couch Kimura sweep Mount and ability to control the match from Bell to Bell with his top pressure and tenacity in holding the Kimora from guard. In what will be absolutely a signature win for the up-and-coming grappler.
In Fabricio Andrey vs Fabian Ramirez We discussed some of the counter wrestling on display and a few very big throws that Fabricio was able to hit on Ramirez as well as a very tight leg lock entry from Ramirez using at the knee control for the leg lock.
In Diogo Reis vs Estevan Martinez We discussed the controlling pressure that Reis used to slow down Estevan as well as some of the Fantastic defense especially to the arm triangle that Martinez employed throughout the smash.

We talk about the stacked Third Coast Grappling Kumite III bracket that was announced. Also discussed in news was the changing of the Spyder Korea dates to June. Plus some UFC Woodly Vs Burns discussion and Mackenzie Dern hitting the first leg lock in woman’s UFC history.

In the recap section we start with Craig Jones Vs. Vagner Rocha the rematch 3 years in the making. We discussed Craig’s use of the DLR and entries into leg lock attempts, and Vagners escape strategies, then discuss the overtime submission. Nicky Ryan Vs Tye Ruotolo in what should be a barn burner colored belt match between two of the worlds biggest most accomplished teen standouts grapplers. Plus Ethan Crelinsten vs Kade Ruotolo in another very hard to pick well matched fight. We also take a look at a few more great matchups on the card.

We also preview Third Coast Grappling Kumite I that has a stellar 8-man bracket and exciting superfights. We talk about how well matched the bracket is and how every grappler has a pathway to victory in the event. We talk about front-runner Gustavo Batista, and replacement Gabriel Arges could be a force on the left side of the bracket. As well as a possible Manuel Ribimar victory from the right side.

This week on the Grappling Rewind Podcast we talk about the weeks news, and as always recap the weeks professional BJJ events; and preview the upcoming weeks events


This week in news we talk about Patrick Gaudio announced for the IBJJF HW GP, Kamaru Usman earning his black belt in BJJ after defeating Tyron Woodly. Polaris Pro 9 has announced that sport betting for the event is live and that you can bet on professional grappling. In the big news Metamoris has announced that they are making a comeback and we found out how much money everyone is owed to athletes. Then we pontificate about who else didn’t get paid for their events. Plus we discuss Ralek Gracie MMA hour interview where he announces a search for a partner financially and operational partner. We talk about the leaked Gracie Barra Threats to the red shield post that popped up on Reddit /r/bjj. Then we get into the recaps section of the show.

It was a packed week with the UAE King of Mats Lightweights, and UAEJJF Grand Slam in London taking place, Ultimate Mat Warriors 4 the Flyweights, Fight to Win 104 Dallas, TX, Grappling Industries Tim Sprigs vs. Craig Jones. We round out the show taking about SOGI 1. (We were unable to recap the Kasai Pro Qualifier for the 205 pound upcoming tournament due to the number of events this weekend), seriously were two guys there is only so much Brazilian Jiu Jitsu we can watch and take notes on in a 48 hour period.

We start the recaps section off talking about the UAE King of Mats Lightweights, and UAEJJF Grand Slam in London. This event features two matches that make our Rewind Recommends list. This event features the best production we have seen from a grappling event. Overhead cameras, replay, ref replay, picture in picture, and more. This event featured great matches from Paulo Miyao, Isaac Doederlein, Hiago George and Joao Batista De Sousa.

After that we move into our recap of a fun superfight between Tim Sprigs vs. Craig Jones at Grappling Industries. These two ADCC 2019 bound competitors squared off in Philly, in a dynamic match that we really enjoyed breaking down. Maine and Emil talk about how much they enjoy seeing grapplers and competitors staying active in the run up to ADCC.

We continue with the recap section talking about Fight to Win 104 Dallas, TX, one of it not the most stacked events Fight to Win has ever put together. This event paid out over 50,000 dollars to athletes in salaries and commissions; making this event the highest paying event the promotion has ever run. This event featured Seth Daniels competing with a broken hand and prompted the question is it cool to attack an injury in competition? This card also featured Yuri Simoes vs. Rafael Lovato Jr in one of the highest-level matchups F2W has ever put on. Manuel Ribamar, DJ Jackson, Rafael Formiga Barbosa, and Nick Greene also were featured at the top of the card.

We then move onto our recap of the Ultimate Mat Warriors 4 the Flyweights. An event stacked with flyweight talent. Maine gets to see a matchup he was looking forward to in Marcello Cohen vs. Austin Daffron in the semi finals of the tournament, plus an exciting finals match.

After that we recap a few of the finals matches and finishing sequence from SOGI 1 the promotion inaugural event that crowned four champions at bamtamweight Junny Ocasio, at Welterweight Michael Kastroba, at Middleweight Enrique Galarza, and at Heavyweight Viktor Vaughn. As well as the announcement of an upcoming Quintet style event.

Then we move into the previews section taking a look at Polaris Pro 9 headlined by

This week on the Grappling Rewind Podcast Maine and Emil recap GrappleFest 9, we preview Fight to Win 146 the return of Caio Terra, we preview the over 180 pound Third Coast Grappling Kumite 4 Bracket, the Polaris 13 GP, and Submission Underground 16 Craig Jones Vs Mason Fowler main event.

In the news section of the show we talk about some upcoming cards including BJJ Stars being announced for FloGrappling for the first time. We also talk about some issues within the community that have happened within the last week. In the brief MMA section of the show we discuss the late replacement of Durino vs Usman that has become Jorge Masvidal fighting for the title.

In the recap section of the show we discuss GrappleFest 9 headlined by Ffion Davies vs Tayane Porfirio in an openweight contest between the two. We talk about the depth of both grapplers games and how a dynamic ability to respond and great top pressure lead to Porfirio victory. We also talk about the co-main event between Jackson Sousa and Dan Strauss, and Ashley Williams and Kev Corkhill dynamic performances in the third billing slot.

In the preview section of the show we run through how we think the Third Coast Grappling Kumite 4 Bracket will shake out including how we think the stacked left side of the bracket will go kicked off with a match 1 of Nick Rodriguez vs Roberto Jimenez, and a possible third match between Nicky Rod and Cyborg in the Semi-Finals. Both Maine and Emil pick Hulk to take the right side of the bracket. We also preview the superfights on the card.
In our preview of Fight to Win 146 the return of Caio Terra, we talk about the last time that we saw Caio on the Fight to Win stage and predict that he will return in top form for this matchup. Also the card are Edwin Najmi taking on Osvaldo “Queixinho” Moizinho, and one of the shows favorite guillotine hunters John Combs, plus a fourth from the top slot match with Edwin “Junny” Ocasio vs Justin Ordinario. This time F2W moves to Austin after running shows in Dallas for the last few months.

After that we discuss the Polaris 13 GP and the top UK talent featured. Including appearances by Polaris staples Freddy Vosgrone, Ross Nicholas, Tom Breese, and Bradley Hill.

Concluding the previews we talk about Submission Underground 16 Headlined with Craig Jones Vs Mason Fowler in the main event. We discuss these two’s first matchup and possibly what format this bout will take place in. We talk about how the overtime will possibly play into this and where we think each grappler has an edge.

In the outro section Maine and Emil talk about what it feels like to be learning new skills and being a white belt again.
